Gas MIleage

I purchased my wife her second Supercrew a 05'. She has about 6,000 miles on it now. What can I do to get better gas mileage out of it. It is getting 12.9 around town. She has not been on a long trip with it, so I do not know what that would be. Any help would be appreciated.

Seems about right, I have noticed that certain brands of gas, being Chevron, BP, etc, get better gas milage then the other. Good luck.

You can probably gain 1-2 MPG by driving very conservatively. Keep the RPMs low while accelerating between lights and coast as much as possible. Try different brands of gas. Some will perform better than others in your engine.

I think 15-16 MPG from a 5.4L is about the best you can expect (even with mods). I can squeeze 21 MPG on the highway, but that's at 55 MPH coasting around corners and drafting other vehicles.

I just did a trip about 350 miles each way. On the way there I was getting just over 14mpg at 80mph. On the way home I was getting 16mpg at about 70-73mph. This is all according to the message center. The trip home took about a half hour longer but I saved giving the State of Wisconsin $186.00 again.
Forgot to add this is with the 91 towing tune from TP.

My 05 S'Crew has gotten 18.6 with the cruise set at 72. It keeps the engine at 2k rpm.

mileage

My '05 5.4L SCrew new with 1,400 miles on it, gets 15.9 average, about 2/3 highway driving and 1/3 street. Conservative driving style.

12.5 MPG on mine running sunoco 94 octane.

BUT... I keep my foot into it most of the time.

I can't resist with the XcalII Troyer tune

12.5 is rough, I keep my foot down pretty good too but I manage 15 to 16 local driving

Intake and exhaust is the best way to get better mileage. However, ya figure your spending $2K-$2.5 (installed) for titanium headers, intake and exhaust.. so does it really average out in the end? The additional performance gain is why Im doing it! (basically spending a years gas monies just for a slight mpg advantage)

A simple drop in K&N is a cheap & easy way to go and add maybe +1 mpg.. but its not guranteed. You will notice a very minor performance improvement on some applications.

Compared to me, your wife is getting good mpgs.

My '01 5.4L 4x4 ORP gets about 10.9 around town. To be fair, it's a rare day when the truck moves more than about 6 or so miles in a day.

When the engine is allowed to get hot on those very rare days when I may drive more than 50 miles, the truck gets about 14.5 mpg. That's about 3/4 city and 1/4 at 55 mph.

I get 12.5 to 13.5 all the time and I drive normal on flat ground. K&N intake and flowmaster exhaust and Superships programmer. All those mods I only gained 1 mph.
