If you have NO damage to the truck, I would call Ford and have them send someone out to look at it along with the dealer. They may cover it under the safety warranty or as a defect??? All they can say is no!

The pretensioners deployed. You'll need new seatbelt assemblies. Also note that the RCM needs to be programmed with a scan tool; figure anywhere from $70-100 at your friendly neighborhood Ford store for that. You'll only need the forward crash sensor.

ETA: Oh yeah, I think you'll need a clockspring too.

Well I cant say absoulutly ZERO damage b/c the plastic lower on the front bumber IS cracked just a bit and the foglights arent flush in there anymore, but its an easy fix. Its getting looked at on Monday and I'll see what they say then.

Yeah, I ordered new assemblies along with new airbags and the crash data computer. I'll grab the clockspring Monday when I get it looked at. What do you mean by the RCM needs to be 'scanned'? First, what is the RCM exactly? Second, do you mean the airbag code needs to be reset in the OBD-II?
And yes, thanks for helping out here, please continue to slum away

RCM is Ford speak for the "Restraint Control Module," it's called an IABM (Integrated Air Bag Module) or something else, I forget, in some other Ford vehicles. The RCM needs to be configured to your vehicle with a scan tool, if it's not, you'll get a B2477 DTC for "Module Configuration Error" with a rapid flashing airbag light. The system won't arm if the module isn't configured properly.

Do I just need to have it all (airbags and CDC) installed (since I got the airbags second hand the dealer wont touch it, so one of the mechanics is installing them on the side for me) and then get the scanner and clear the code that it is displaying?? Or is it more complicated than that? The O'Reilly's up the road has a scanner to rent that plugs in by where my right knee would be in the driver's seat and seems to be quite comprehensive in its capabilities. I dont remember what all options it had but it did quite a bit. Would that work or do I need more specialized tool??

Yes, you'll have to replace the affected parts and then reconfigure the RCM. I'm unaware of any aftermarket scan tools except the Diagtek (or something, I forget the exact name of it) that's capable of programmable module installation.

What about your car insurance it should cover you in a one car collision even in a field. that is why you pay those big 4x4 rates for. just a thought. I had a little accident and put a bullet through the bed of my toyota a the comprehensive fixed it.

I've thought about that, and still may. Its those big 4x4 rates that I'm worried about though. I have full coverage and I could make a claim but I'm worried that the long term effect (rate increase) from making a claim would be worse than just getting it fixed on my own. The dealer service shop is going to go through the truck bumper-to-bumper on Monday and tell me what I need that I may have overlooked and I'm also going to call my insurance Monday just to see how bad the damage would be if I DID make a claim. Never hurts to check.

Would love to hear how you shot the truck, thats gotta be worth hearing about.
