Questions on installation of snuglid

I am getting a Snuglid for my 01 Supercrew. I bought it from someone, so I am going to install it myself. Do you have to remove the plastic bed caps to install the cover? I have seen pictures with the bed caps on, but the person that I am buying it from told me that they removed them.

How hard is the installation?

I have never had a snuglid, but I have had a soft cover, a hard fiberglass cover, and now a retractable cover. On all of them I left the bedrail caps on, I would keep them on but thats me. Good luck.

I wanted to leave them on, but didnt know if it would effect the closing of the cover or affect how well it sealed.

I bought (and installed myself) a Snuglid shortly after buying my new '01 Screw. I opted for the "no-drill" setup since I couldn't stnd the thought of drilling holes in my brand-new truck. For the "no-drill" installation you definitely leave the plastic bed-rail caps in place on the truck.

The installation was not technically difficult. I did need help actually lifting the lid into place.

The cover that I am getting does require drilling. Is that going to make a difference?

If you remove the side rail caps it will never seal. There is a gap and about 77 holes under them.

Well, I am not familiar with the "drill" installation, but I would bet a ton of money that you are supposed to leave the caps in place.

Try calling Snugtop (manufacturer of the Snuglid) and ask for "customer service" or "tech support." 562-432-5454

I will try and call them. I found a place that would install it for $60. Is this a good deal for the work, or is it easy enough to do it myself?

I personally wouldn't pay $60 for the installation...I prefer to do repairs, maintenance, and accessory installation myself whenever possible. This has its limits, of course, 'cause I am not a master mechanic. I found my Snuglid installation to be fairly straightforward, though. One consideration, however, is that since I bought mine new from the Snugtop factory, it came with complete installation instructions. Will your lid come with instructions? If not, perhaps when you call Snugtop, see if they will send you copy of the installation instructions by fax, email or snail mail.
