Starting Problems

Hey all,

My truck's starting problem has been getting worse and worse, and the dealer will still not do anything about it...

Anyways, I'm going to take it to another dealer on Monday, to see if it can be fixed.

Here is my problem,

Whenever I try to start my truck, I'll turn the key, and have to sit on the ignition for 3-5 seconds before it will turn over. Sometimes it starts right up, sometimes it starts a little quicker, a little slower. It sounds awful, and my friends always give me weird looks when I start my truck.

I dont have any problems otherwise with the engine when I'm driving.

Any ideas as to what I should tell the dealer? Cause they keep blowing smoke up my ***.

Since your only observation is a delay in response, I would be looking at the starter drive for being dry of lube or at least an inspection.
The starter relay could act this way also.
Could be a loose/ dirty cable connection from the battery right thur to the starter.
For me, I don't understand what the big deal is not to check these out.
If there was food on the table and no knife/fork and spoon; Id be dammed not to eat if I was hungry, anyways.

I had the same problem, and I hate to say it is it will most likely get worse (at least mine did). At first I changed my Starter Sylenoid (sp?) and fixed it temporarly. After about 2 months, it started back up so I changed my Starter. It has been fine since.
