Whirring steering noise
I've done a search, but haven't found an answer to my problem. I did find something about someone injecting grease into a rubber boot - but I don't really understand just exactly what they were doing.
I have a 2003 supercrew. When I'm driving slowly - like backing in or out of my driveway is when I can really hear the sound the most. It is a whirring sound. I have checked the power steering fluid it was down just a hair and I added new fluid. I don't hear it coming from the engine compartment when I lift the hood and turn the wheel. Only hear it inside the cab. A mechanic told me (didn't listen to my truck) that sometimes there can be an air bubble in the line or the pump might be going. But its not a screech like sound that I would expect from a bad pump. I've got about 300 miles left on my warranty and am wondering if I should try to get it checked out. The steering works fine - I'm just worried about a future problem. I haven't had it checked yet, just because it's a real problem for me to get it to the dealer. Dealership I bought it at is about 70 miles away and the closer dealers have refused to work on it for other problems

Have you ever changed the power steering fluid? It might not hurt to get the old fluid out of there and get some clean new fluid in the system. Power steering fluid is not a permanent lubricant.

No - I haven't tried that. It never occured to me that it would need changing with just under 36,000 miles on it. I will look into having it done though. I've never changed the power steering fluid on any of my vechicles.
