Unhappy how to increase standard hp

i'm embarrased to say that a ford escape (v6, 200 hp) smoked me in a short race. got an '01 supercrew (5.4) which comes standard with 260hp. i think my engine is turned down or something because I should have left that thing suckin' wind. is there anything i can do to my engine to make it run like it has 260 hp (turning a screw or something)?

Try losing 1500 pounds which the Escape has on you.

lb/hp Escape V6: 3800/200 = 19
lb/hp F-150 5.4L: 5300/260 = 20.4

Torque, gears, tire size all have a factor on acceleration. Escape has a very different purpose than your truck. If you don't need to carry 1500 pounds of junk or tow more than 2000 pounds, sell your truck for an Escape and tie him.

Power to weight ratio

It's ok, I got beat by a new Eclipse (260hp?) in an 8th mile race. Once I got my 2001 lightning (380hp) moving I would have walked away from him, but being that he weighed less than half of me, and had more than half of the horsepower I do, he got me really bad cause he could get up and go a lot faster. It's not the horepower you have that wins or loses races, it's how you put the power to the ground..i/e gear ratio, tires, etc. as well as weight versus horsepower. Motrcycles that do 120+mph in the quarter mile with a 10-second e/t only have 100 horses or so. BK

Custom tuning will wake your truck up and bring out all of its potential. You need to check out the “Chips & Programming” forum and read up on what everyone else is doing to get more ponies

The biggest “bang for the buck” mods are (in this order)
1. XCalibrator 2 for ALL OBD-II & CAN FoMoCo vehicles 1996 & up
2. Air Force One Intake Kit for 1997-2003 Ford F-150 w/4.6 & 5.4
3. Magnaflow cat-back exhaust system for the 1997-2004 Ford F-150 with 4.6 or 5.4 V8 engines

Try getting rid of the truck and get a car thats ment to run fast. Or use the truck as a truck. Haul things not haul a$$.

Don't feel bad, I have been taken off the line by an S10 and Dakota and have Superchips programming, aftermarket exhaust, and an intake system. Now I had no problem catching up and passing them, especially since they have speed limiters and I don't

Weight to power ratio is a big factor. Both the S10 and the Dakota were single cab, shortbed trucks and weighed a heck of a lot less than my monster.

On the count of three, floor it on two it’ll help with that weight to power ratio thing

My last hotrod could light up both back tires in a cloud of smoke at 60 MPH. If I still wanted to do that, I wouldnt have bought a truck. Anyway, try dumping 1500 lbs of manure on the roof of the Escape, then see how fast it is.

My god, a stick in my a$$.

Grow up a bit. I gave you my opinion and now I have a stick in the a$$.

Go buy a Mustang if you want to spin tires and go fast.

If you really want a racer, go buy a new GTO -- 9.8 lb./HP

Otherwise, you're going to put a lot of money into upgrading your truck. I have an 01 screw and I can take just about anything at the track as well because I'm at about 15 lb./HP with my Holley supercharger.
