New vs used

Okay, I'd like to see a lot of you guys chime in on this.
If you bought your truck used, speak up and tell your thoughts on this.
If you bought your truck new, speak up and give your insights.
I have always bought new until I bought my 2002 Screw after I turned
in my 2002 Scab when the lease was up.
Do you think it's better to buy new? Smarter to buy used? More choices when looking at used?
My 2002 Screw is the first used vehicle I have purchased and I have no regrets about it except the mileage that was on it when I bought it, just a bit under 44,000 miles.
What do you all have to say on this?

This is my first new vehicle, I have no regrets, so far its definatly been worth the money. My goal for this truck is to get at least 10 years out of it, hopefully 15. I know thats a long time, but I take care of my vehicles. To me, buying new or used is pretty much if you have the money for the new one or not, at least thats been my experience. Hopefully after getting 15 years, I will be able to buy new again.

I bought my truck new in 2002. I currently have a little over 45,000 miles on it. I enjoy driving a different vehicle every 3-4 years, but I think that I will try and keep this one for a little bit longer.

As far as buying used goes, I think that it is a very smart move. You definitely don't have to worry about the huge hit that you take in the first year of ownership as far as depreciation of a brand new vehicle.

I believe that there are more selection when buying used as far as color and options on the vehicle that you want. On the flip side, there are a ton of late model used cars that are great deals for millions of people every year.

I will continue to buy new because I like driving the latest models.

Thumbs up new vs. used

i bought my 01 screw used with 57k . it is a great truck and i love it. i have to say though, if i'd had the money i would have gotten a new one. the reason is warranty. i havent had much troubly out of mine, but the problems if had are ones that i would rather have a dealer fix, than trying my own luck. so good value with the used truck. good warranty with the new. this isint my full thought prosses on the subject but you get the idea.

My '04 supercrew FX4 had 9k on it but 6k of it was put on by the dealer driving to car auctions and stuff. The guy that had it before(my dad knows him) had it for a month or two and decided he wanted another f-250 because the f-150 was to small for using on the farm. It has every option but the moonroof. I was looking at an '05 lariat supercrew but then he showed my dad this truck and he couldnt resist the price on it. I think we got it for 25k which isnt bad. I would rather have new but this one was like new. Just buy whatever fits your budget and style. If you like the truck it wont matter if it's used or not.

Depends how much you value $. Used is always a better financial decision, especially with a domestic b/c they seem to depreciate a lot faster than asian vehicles. Also, its best to buy used about 2 years after the new style is out or if new, within the first year of the new style. Bought my 01 Screw used after looking at new 150s and Titans. Fort the $, the used Screw was the most bang for the $. And it will only depreciate 6-7$ tops from its bottm dollar. So Im good there too....

Used....

My 97 had 6000 miles from someone who thought he was going to pull a fifth wheel with it... Got it for thousands less then a new one and he had already put many aftermarket parts in it..

By the way 89000 plus miles Supercharged and still going strong..

You save a lot of money buying used, and there are plenty of solid choices with relatively low mileage available, but new is nice too. What can you comfortably afford? That’s the question.

I bought my 03 King Ranch in Feb 05 with 16K miles on it. It has every option I would have ordered, plus an ARE topper, and it is in perfect condition. The price was great. I usually buy new but couldn't pass this up. I am planning on keeping it until the wheels fall off......then I will give it to my husband!!

Have always bought new until this time. Did not like the style of the 97 - 2003 Ford Trucks. Looked at everything and decided to wait for the new F-150 and then I noticed the F-150 SuperCrew. I liked everything about it, even the design. Still thought I would buy new until my fleet person mentioned that he had a great buy on a 2001 Supercrew that a customer traded in on a new F-150 Supercrew. The Screw had 25,000 miles on it and never left the pavement. I paid 13,000 difference and traded in a 98 ZR-2 (only chevy I ever owned). Best deal ever because this truck was perfect in everyway EXCEPT the paint - which had these small wierd cut like marks under the clearcoat. Ford repainted my truck for free (paint defect) at a custom paint shop in Denver. So, far it is the best truck I have ever owned. Have just over 36,000 miles on it now. Got it in 2003.

Probably will get razzed on the 98 S10-ZR2 4X4 but if Ranger would get up to the state-of-the-art I would have bought one of those. At the time a 190 hp engine was the best. Will only buy Ford from this time on!

Used is o.k. Semper Fi

I bought my 01 Screw last year with 56k on the clock and promptly added another 20,000 miles to the total. I plan on keeping this truck longer than my last one (I needed more seats) and I didn't want a huge monthly payment so I found a used one at a good price and bought it flat out. My depreciation is much better/not nearly as bad as with a new one. However if I bought a new vehicle, I'd keept it darn near forever.

I bought both of my vehicles new. I plan on keeping both of them for a long time (over 5 years), so I think I was better off buying new, especially with the interest rates and incentives. Now, if you just walk in and pay MSRP, you are getting ripped off.

I agree with most here about buying used. I only bought one new vehicle, an '88 F150 and I paid too much and got ripped on my trade as well. Oh well, live and learn.
Last year I was looking for a new (to me) vehicle, wanted to spend $16K-$18K. I really wanted an extended cab Ranger with the 4.0, auto and loaded (similar to the loaded Explorers). But Ford doesn't put many creature comforts in the Rangers and the bed on the Sport Track was too small.
I didn't need a full size truck but happened across this '02 Lariat SCab with 36K miles for $18K. It's more truck than I'll ever need and my only regret is the horrendous fuel mileage (average <13 mpg). But I make enough money to pay for gas and ride in comfort! And my payments are less than the guy driving a brand new truck with cloth seats.

Thumbs up

I purchased my 01 Scab in March of 2004 with 31,000 miles on it as a Certified Used vehicle from a local Ford dealership and plan on driving it for 10 - 12 years. This replaced a 1992 Chevy Cavalier that I had purchased new and had 145,000 miles on it.

Personally, with having bought all used vehicles except for the Cavalier, the big diffrence between new and used is new car "smell" and after a few weeks that wears off. As for warranty repairs, with my truck I had the remaining 5k of the bumper to bumper, and I was able to get an extended warranty for half of the regular price because of it being a certified used.

The important thing is that when I was dealing on this truck, I asked the salesman what my truck would have cost if I had bought a equally equipped '04? His reply was that my '01 was costing me half the price of a '04 and the best part is that it had everything on it that I would have added to a new on at sometime.
