Smile New Supercrew....

Just picked up my new F150 Supercrew Lariat....Wondering about the speed limit I should be using....Got about 150 miles on it and going on a trip in two days of 310 miles one way....Should I be watching my speed limit...???

You should definitely watch your speed limit; you don’t want to get a big speeding ticket in a brand new truck, do you?

Congrats on the new F150 Screw

Years ago I remember hearing that you should keep it under 55 0r 60 MPH untill you hit 500 miles for a good break-in. The dealer never said anything but I have friends that are comitted to that. I am on the fence. I don't "mash-it" but I also don't baby it either.

Another "overkill" "waste-of-time" thing I do is change oil right when I get home. Don't know why. Just do.

Congrats on the new truck. I pick up mine on Saturday and I will try to stick to driving at lower speeds for the first 500 miles. Don't know if it is necessary or not, it is just something I do with my new cars.

Check this article out; it definitely goes against the grain of “old school” techniques.

A recommended engine break-in procedure

congrats on the new truck.

There is a section in the owners manual that addresses proper engine break-in (as recommended by Ford)

I was always told that you should vary your speed on highway driving during a break in period. Don't just set it on cruise and go.

My grandfather and father have owned Fords all their lives and swear by hammering down on it right out of the gate to set the rings. Both have had many cars last many many many miles! We have a 85 F-150 w/ an inline 6 out in the driveway now that has 300k and still going strong!! So I took their advice and my '04 has been drove normal since day one!

If you're concerned about "break-in" I don't think speed matters as much as RPM. I would change the oil at 500 miles for the first time though.

don't guess... read your manual. Ford has a recommended breakin that will extend engine life and prevent premature compression loss.

Where in the Owner’s Guide is that info? I can’t find it in my Owner’s Guide.

Good advice - I couldn't seem to find it my manual either. I would "guess" changing the oil early would be good "insurance" and not red-lining the engine for a few hundred miles would be a good thing too.
