Ut oh!

When I turn the rear end squeeks and makes a horrible sound, shimmeys, jerks and is "bumpy". It only does it when I turn and give it gas at low speed(5-15mph).

what are some things I should check? This all started happening about 1-200 miles after I got an oil change at pensoil. Could it be the oil? Or is it something like a loose u bolt or something?

Thanks.

Ok, after hard research I came to the conclusion that it is probably the clutch pack. How much do these things cost to replace?!.

You're talking about the "clutch pack" in the rear?? Positraction??

How many miles??

Why not get some additive first. For Positraction/Traction Lok. Add it to rear. Take truck to large empty parking lot. Do three/four tight, wheel against steering stop to wheel against steering stop, slow figure "8"s.

That should take care of the noise. I've fixed MANY nosey Posi rears that way.

Not too expensive either.

I would have the oil changed and new additive added. I had a similar problem with a Trans Am. After changing the oil and adding fresh additive I never had another problem in the next 8 years that I owned the car.

What engine oil do you recommend? My truck has 73,500 miles on it.

And also, I pour the additive in the transmission oil, right? What kind of Positraction/Traction additive oil do you recommend?

No, the friction modifier additive does not go in the transmission. This isn't a transmission issue. The friction modifier is added to the rear end fluid in order to allow the limited slip clutches to slip. If you add too much, then you will no longer have any 'limited slip' capability and your rear end will work like a standard open rear end. Not enough and the clutches will grab and chatter when going around corners.

just bought some TransX posi friction additive tonight. not sure if it is the right stuff? says not to use in automatic transmissions, or ATF.

B: Heh, he said rear end.
BH: Shut up Beavis.

Sorry, couldn't help it.

WTH is going on here? If changing his motor oil from Valvoline to Mobil 1 "helped alot" with the diff. chatter, I'm beginning to wonder which end of this vehicle is the front, and which is the back.

Not to be an AH or anything, but if you have to ask where the rear end fluid is located, you should definitely consider getting some assistance from someone with juuuuust a tad more automotive know-how.

That, or this just a goof thread.

Well I noticed the chatter after I put vavoline in the engine oil. I know that has nothing to do with it, but it still helped alot when i put in mobil 1.
