Talking Thanks for the help with the power slider!

I gotta tell you, this is why I love this site . . .

I bought a factory rear window power slider a few months ago on ebay - which is actually a CRLaurence window. I was excited, to have it, but I didn't have time to install it at the time. Man, I'm glad I waited.

The factory kit doesn't come with a stock looking switch - and the direction - although adequate - could really be more specific. So - not that long ago, I caught a thread from MikeF150 on a link to a DIY website that covered the steps in doing the installation on an installment of DIY. They were very thorough with more specific pictures, and on the website it said that their screw came prewired for the window.

That helped me out with directions and where the motor can be mounted, but not with the ugly, not backlit switch. MikeF150 also chimed in that the switch I needed was from a 95 or 96 Contour. It's the exact switch Ford used for the factory installation. I found one on ebay for under $15, so I thought between my truck being prewired, and the switch, I was in fat city.

Little did I know, apparently not all screws are prewired for the window - I looked all over for the darn ends when I started working, and they weren't there. The wiring for the kit isn't a matchup for the Contour switch, so then I hit panic mode!

I started doing searches here on this site for help, and I came accross 4 or 5 other threads - most started by Rockpick, that went through everything I needed to wire in the contour switch - including where to get the grounds, power supply (so it acts like the side windows), wiring diagrams - etc, etc. Talk about invaluable stuff - especially since I have always been leary of doing wiring! And I lucked out - when I bought my switch, the plug with a short pigtail came with it.

So, I just finished the job, and it works perfectly! The ideas and help that are traded every day are just awesome, and I couldn't be happier with the result!

So thanks MikeF150, Rockpick, and everyone else who posted on this subject! You can't buy experience in life, but you can get it free here.

Thanks, again!

By the way - sorry for the screw-up in the title - too darn late at night by the time I finished!

Bryan.. here's the link to the thread a few weeks ago..https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...hreadid=187701

Best bet is to do a search on "power slider" and you should be able to find all the info that o1red references above...

Glad to have helped a bit... Mike's link is definitely a great step by step on how to do it. Much better than what I had originally posted...

Rockpick - your threads are where I pieced together how to wire the switch so it looks and acts stock - couldn't have done it without those!!!

Here are the schematics (my wiring harness from the countour used different colors for wires than Rockpick's notes, but it functioned the same way):

This one references the contour switch:

Here's where to get the switch, and a picture of the dash-mount factory installation spot:

Rockpick's message from 2-5-2003 explains how his plugs are wired, including which circuit he's going to get power from (I put yellow from the motor to number one, and red to number seven, and it worked the right direction):

Rockpick's message from 2-9-2003 explains where he found that circuit for power - when you take off the kick panel, it's the middle connector (the only one with six wires coming from it):

As you can tell from reading through the threads, there were a ton of guys who helped out on this and made it easier for the next guy. Thanks a ton!

Thanks man... I appreciate the kudos. That certainly was a beast of a project to accomplish for me as I'm VERY electrically challenged.

I'm just glad it worked out for you!

Yeah, it even helped me since I was too busy to find the information out on my own. After all, once I had the information it took me all of 5 minutes or so since I'm an electrical engineer .

What I figured out is that the early model screws didn't have the option for the power slider, so they aren't prewired. My 2001 I bought in May of 2001, and the power slider wasn't yet an option. I think that all the 2001 models (except the very early 2002 models that still are labeled 2001) will not be prewired, although that is only speculation on my part based on research of available options.

Advice on Power Slider

I would like to install a power slider on my 03 SuperCrew. I'm looking to buy the C.R. Laurence window. Anyone have any good/bad things to say about the window? Should I get one from Ford? Thanks in advance for your input!!!

The CR Laurence slider is Ford's slider. In fact...

I managed to snag my slider off of ebay many moons. You may also check www.truckininstyle.com .

I just purchsed a CRL slider on Ebay. When I went to install it, I noticed the slider had 6 clips to hold it in place. When I removed the OEM window, it was held in place with 12 studs and nuts. I am trying to install the CRL in a 97 F150. Did anyone else have problems, or am I missing something about how to install the slider. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Just replaced my window

MrWSM1,

Where are the clips you're describing? When I removed the window from the shipping box, I didn't see any clips. My CRL had the 12 mounting studs. Did the window you removed have the 2 clips on each side of it?

Here are some lessons learned...

Put the new butyl tape on the slider instead of the truck, run the tape between the studs and then just go over them. Start the tape at the bottom so you won't have any gaps for moisture.

Clean the opening with acetone or some kind of solvent. Get ALL the old adhesive off.

Have you pulled the old window out yet? You'll need a putty knife to wedge between the OE window and the pinchweld. Use the putty knife to seperate the old butyl. You'll probably break a sweat doing it, that old butyl is onery.

Tomorrow, I'm wiring the switch. Do you have the CRL switch? If so, it's a breeze.
If I can be of any more help, let me know.
