How do you like your Supercrew???

Hello all, I humbly request all you supercrew owners out there to take a minute and let me know how you like your Supercrew. I am shopping for a replacement for my 1995 F150 Supercab 4x4 with a 302 and 5 speed, and I really like the Supercrew F150's. The ones that I have test drove have the 5.4L engine, and it seems to have a lot of power. I will be pulling a 2 horse trailer occasionally, and a car trailer occasionally. I'd like more power than my current 302, but don't want to spend the bucks on a Powerstroke, or a gas guzzling v-10. I currently have my eye on a 2001 supercrew, specifically I'd like to know the following:

What was the first year for supercrews? 2000? 2001?
Is there anything to look out for on a 2000-2003 supercrew, mechanically or cosmetically?
Do they tow trailers well?
Have any of you put a body lift on your Supercrew?
If so, how do you like it?
What kind of mileage numbers are you getting (5.4L owners specifically)?

The Screw I have my eye on has 65,000 miles, 5.4L, 4x4, with a 3" body lift. The pictures make it look very good, is there anything I should watch out for?

That's all I can think of for now, thank you very much for your time.
Pat

I have a 2001 supercrew Lariat 4X4, 5.4L and owned it since new. I do believe they were the first year. But the are several different gens in that year. All with some slight differrences. Like seats with and without headrests, and a few other minor differences. Mine has 95,000 miles and I love it. I have never had any troubles with it. The only thing wrong with it, is the lumbar support on the drivers side seems to a little bulge on the back of the seat. As for anything to look for some people here have had spark plugs blow out in the 5.4, but I have never seen it. I have towed some stuff like 4 x 8 trailers, a Ford Taurus, and a loded u haul trailer. Mine has the optional trailer pkg. and it did excellent with those things. Mileage wise I get about 16 on the hiway doing 80 mph (here in WY the speed limit is 75). in town 14 or so. I love mine and it still looks great and runs wonerdful, best truck I have ever owned. I also have the off road package with the high altitude package, and take it 4 wheelin in the mountains from 8,000 to 9,500 feet and the thing does wonderful climibing over rocks and steep grades. That's where the best trout hide. lol The limited slip rearend really helps. These trucks look good in the mountains and in the city. Hope you get it and enjoy it!

good solid truck,
normal 5.4 replacement items, cops, iac, tranny flush, plugs.
I don't think we can tow a goose neck or 5 th wheel because of the short bed, pulls tag trailer good.
Try to make sure you get a towing package, it will have the trans and oil cooler and 7 pin plug in the back.

I love mine! 2001 was the first year with the supercrew. If you plan on duing a lot of towing, I suggest that you make sure it has the towing package. Good luck and enjoy!

Great truck with lots of room, nice ride and power when you need it.I get 16 out on the road depends if the wind blows,it may be more or less.A friend of my wifes has a 2001 SuperCrew and says it's a great truck. On the mileage at 65k take it in and put it on a lift look for leaks and wear,if you do buy it change out the air cleaner and the brake pads, every used vel I've got that's needed to be changed out. There's lots of these trucks out there still going strong. enjoy

I love mine!
I tow a good bit (16ft. cattle trailer, 18 ft. flatbed with anything from a tractor to a car to whatever, and a 10 ft. utility with 4-wheelers, lawnmowers or just "stuff).
I get 14 mpg driving to work and back, and as much as 18.5 on a road trip (staying below 2000 RPM's is the key to mileage with the 5.4)
Plenty of power (more than a 302, I know, I have had them also)
great comfort, alot of room, and great looks.
I have had no mechanical problems from my truck. I have had problems with the driver's lumbar support squeaking , both outside mirrors vibrating at speed, driver's side headrest being loose, had the steering wheel replaced because the leather cover was worn out, and had the driver's side seat-back cover replaced because the "hinge" had worn a slit in it on the left side and was a risk of tearing. (All these repairs were done under warranty before 36000 miles) I now have 80,000 miles on this truck

See sig for truck details.... I highly recommend the ,01 SCrew!

I love mine, can't go wrong with one.
72000 miles all trouble free. Nothing but normal maintenance items.

I got mine in April, 2000 - I really like it, in fact I also bought a 2003. I have 110K on the 2001 - nothing major but normal maintenance and I hated the stock brakes. It tows my car trailer like it isn't even there.

I just got mine. 02 Lariat 5.4 4X2. Love it i had a 93 f-150 regular cab with a 302 awesome truck no doubt, and I miss it sometimes but you won't be disappointed with the supercrew.

edit: i think 01 supercrews have a recall for the cruise control, might want to check into that.

'01 4x2 Supercrew - Love it! You won't be disappointed. I don't tow, but I do haul three kids in car seats around every now and then, and it works great!

Nice to see another Nebraskan on the site, Sandman!

Talking

I have had many heavy duty F-250's in my time. Now I have an 2001 GEN III, F-150 Screw (see signature below) which is my pride and joy. This by far is my favorite truck and one that I am not going to get rid of for a long time. My highway mileage is just below 20 mph (I only drive the speed limit) and my off road 4 wheel mileage is not good - but this is why I bought it - to hunt, fish, and camp in the high country. I have a 2001 Eddie Bower Explorer I drive in town.

This truck has been in some really nasty places and never failed to get me out. All of my friends have F-150's from the 1997 model to the 2003. The only problems noted are batteries in a couple of them. I have had no problems at all.

Good Luck - Semper Fi

I have an 01 SuperCrew, loved it. The 4.6 does okay in it, but it's not a powerhouse. If you want to tow often get the 5.4, hell get the 5.4 anyway. My mpg ranges from 13-17 depending on how I drive, but normally I romp it everywhere I go.

39000 miles on my 02, and love it. Trailers well, has ample power, and interior room is second to none.
This is the best all around vehicle I have ever owned.

Hey guys: Newbie to the Forum, but been around the Blue Oval all my life. My first "truck" was a 1962 Ranchero with the Falcon front. I've got an '01 SCREW 4X4 XLT 5.4l. I love this truck! I pull a 30' travel trailer with it. The trailer is a "lite" so it weighs-in around 8,000lbs loaded. No problems pulling, even up steep grades. I bought it used a couple of years ago & only have about 30k miles on it. The only problem I've had was the firewall-mounted starter solenoid gave out one day. Ford replaced it under warranty. I'm taking the beast in today to get my "don't catch on fire" crusie control recall taken care of. I put some beefy BFG mud terrains on it. They look great & let me go anywhere I want when I'm offroad. They suck on gas mileage however. I don't baby my baby, I get around 11mpg in town & around 8mpg when i'm pulling my loaded trailer. I think I was getting around 13mpg before I put the mudders on. The only reason I would get rid of this truck is if/when I can afford an F350 with a diesel so I can upgrade my trailer to a nice fifth wheel!
