More Power.
More Power.
Just got my 2004 F150 supercrew Lariat with the 5.4. Upgraded from my 99 F150 extended cab. I am looking for the first steps in maximizing the power on it. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do first to get the most power out of it. I have already installed dual exhaust.
IT has got a rumble to it now that I like. Gas mileage went up .2 miles per gallon according to my digital readout. It does seem to have a little bit more get up and go but the difference isn't huge. I only put one flowmaster on. Some have went with two but again I have been told the price isn't worth the two versus the one
I'm new to the forums but read them quite often..One of the biggest improvements in power I have noticed is having the engine reprogrammed by a local tuner.. The power is very noticeable and my 2003 F-150 Supercrew with the 5.4 actually does a little better with the gas mileage when I manage to keep my foot out of the throttle. There are quite a few choices out there when it comes to reprogramming the engine and tranny but I have the SCT program and love it.
I forgot, what was the mileage ? In town, mixed, Hwy. I just got mine 4 weeks ago. As far as I can tell, I'm getting 14.5 in the city, 19 Hwy. I have the 5.4, 3.55 gear. I think I read that the on board computor takes a while to adjust to your driving habits, before getting an accurate reading. I wouldnt say .2 is a difference at all. I think the cold weather might do that. IMO

The Magnaflow cat-back system will increase power & performance without losing any torque down low, so it's certainly worth doing - it's just that the actual order of bang for the buck in these trucks is our custom tuning first, because nothing else for the same or less cost will improve the performance as much.
Then after our custom tuning comes a good intake kit (Air Force One for the 1997-2003 trucks), and then the cat-back exhaust. Actually, the order of bang for the buck would put underdrive pulleys ahead of the cat-back exhaust - the exhaust gains a little bit more power but at a higher price. But we generally recommend doing the tuning, intake and then the exhaust, so that you have a balanced package - the engine's tuning is sharp, and it can get air in *and* out better. When the right parts are used, you get more total power gain from our Stage 1 package (tuning, intake & exhaust) once all 3 of those mods are done than just adding up their gains separately would tend to indicate, simply because they work together as a "system," with one complimenting the other.
So we suggest doing the tuning, intake kit, and the cat-back exhaust as the first 3 mods - and then move on to the underdrives, E-fans, etc. if you like.
Hope that info helps!

Thanks to everyone for the replies, I am pumped about getting started on these mods. I do not know of any F 150 specialist in my area when it comes to modifications so I depend heavily on everyone on the message board for their experience.
Thanks again
