HVAC lights out, bulb or?

On my 2001, the HVAC controls aren't lit up and night anymore. Took me awhile to even notice, but now it's annoying. I think there was a light in the ashtray as well but that is gone too. Anyone tried to replace the bulbl in that region of the dash? Any tips are appreciated.

I was wondering myself, IS there a light for the ashtray??

EDIT: Never mind. I found the answer in another thread.

How does one get the thing out that HOLDS the ashtray?

Firezap laid out instructions for cupholder removal and LED installation on 3/12/01. Search using led ashtray light as the subject. I did the LED in the left cupholder/ashtray. Very cool.

Thanks snappy, but I have an '04.
I will search some more.
What I've found so far is how to get the surround off, which is a good start.

Sooo...Can you tell me how

To get to the HVAC controls bulb on my '01? I have the extended warranty but bulbs are not covered, even with Premium Care.

Thx,

Al

No, but if it were me, and my Climate Control lights and ashtray lights went out at the same time, I would first be checking my fusebox, then looking for power in the wires leading to the CC, THEN start thinking about pulling the dash apart.

If you look in the Head Unit section, I'm sure somebody has a cheat sheet on removing the surround panel. Once that's off, the CC control panel is right there. Good luck with it.

Lights back on...

Well thanks to those of you who replied. I pulled the trim panel around the radio/hvac controls-it just pops off but you should be careful. Also disconnect the battery before starting.

Once the panel is off the hvac controls will unbolt. Then you need to disconnect the plugs and vaccuum lines.

There are indeed 2 bulbs in that hvac control panel. They twist out, sockets and all. The bulbs are found at the dealer for a couple of bucks. These pull out like Xmas tree lights, they don't twist out (don't ask me know I know this).

Replace wiring and hoses, panel and trim. Done.

Also the ashtray light works the same way but you just need to pull the whole ashtray out and get to the miniscule light within. It also pulls out and the new bulb goes in easily.

Sorry no pix but at least my 01 works like new again.

Blah blah, fill out the subject line

Excellent! Nothing bugs me more than simple things not working. Glad you got your rig fixed.
