Wheel ? for my 01/SCREW

I just traded in my 97 F-150 X-Cab 4x4. I had a brand new set of 285/70/16's on there that I wanted to put on the 01/SuperCrew 4x4. To my dismay I realized the SuperCrew I just bought has 17" wheels on it so the tire swap was impossible. I then asked the dealer if we could swap wheels and tires and they promptly said "Sure". I then planned to drop the truck off the next day to have this done and when I arrived I was told the 97 and 01 had "differnt lug sizes" and that the swap would not work.

Is this true?

I have consulted several wheel charts and from what I see they should bolt up fine. Am I missing something or did I get bad info?

You got bad info. The lug pattern changed with the 04 model year. As late as 03 they still had 16" wheels on some trim levels, so brake clearance isn't an issue. Looks like someone else at the stealership wanted your tires.

No I realize the lug pattern is the same...They told me the Lug Size was different. A search here reveals that they may have been accurate with their info. Apparently the lug size changed in 99 from 12mm to 14mm.

They are different size lugs but from what I understand there are several people on here that have done this swap that haven't had any problems. The wheels use the hub to center themselves (Hubcentric). If they used the lugs to center the wheels then this would cause problems using the wheels for 14mm studs on the 12mm studs.

what's really important is that the wheels have the 5x135mm bolt pattern. As for studs, they came in 12x1.75mm or 14x2mm. I'm taking it that the newer models had the 14x2mm. The only concern would be whether or not the "holes" for the studs in the wheels are big enough to fit the new SCrew.

Don't forget to double check the speedo as doing this tireswap may cause it to be off..
