Lower a 4x4?

I was thinking of removing the factory lift blocks from the rear axle and lowering the front bars to make it level again. (I know, it's a 4x4, but tired of climbing to get in and wife is shorter than me, also I don't like step bars). Has anyone tried it? Will it work? Will it damage truck?

thanks

Question

IMHO, why would you want to do that to a 4X4. Get a 4x2 if you want lower. My wife is 4'10" and drives a 2001 4x4 Screw. No problem.

4.6L
Skids
Bright Red
6-disk CD Changer
Sliding Rear Window
9" ac/dc TV/VCR for trips

Spray in Liner
Snugtop XTR Topper (The best looking topper out there!)

Ordered 6 Dec 00
Born 8 Jan 2001
Got from Dealer 22 Jan 2001

Did you have to replace the U-bolts for the axle / spring with shorter U-bolts? Or did the existing U-bolts have enough threads to be re-used even though the lift blocks were removed?

Thanks.

I was just stating COMMON SENSE. Why spend the money on a 4x4 and lower it! Save the few thousand dollars you would spend on a 4x4 option and get a 4x2. Use the money saved to do your lowering and other mods. If you already have the 4x4, get steps or something and live with it.

Lowering a 4x4 is just as bad as taking a pickup and turning it into a lowrider. You can bet that people when they see this done. A waste of a truck.

MY Opinion!

if you saw my drive way you would
want a 4x4 as well

COMMON SENSE tells most people that a 4x4 is purchased for better traction in snowy/rugged conditions, not cuz its higher in the back. What does lowering or raising the truck have to do with wanting more traction in snowy/ruff road conditions?? Saving money on a 4x2 doesnt make the front wheels turn. What a silly comment about a waste of a truck.

I work for a construction company and need 4x4. I did look at step-bars but they sit so high, you might as well just step in the cab (plus I don't like the looks). It also would be nice not to have the radio antena break lights out at the bank's covered parking <G>.

BTW would U-bolts from a regular 4x2 F150 work?

thanks

I love my westin step bars. Although they sit high, they are a nice intermediate step before getting in and out of the cab. They also help protect the truck against car doors in a parking lot!

I was looking at a set of factory step bars on the internet. I wonder if I could get a local fab shop to lengthen the brackets so it would lower the bar by 2 or 3 inches? Then it would be a good step for wife to use.

Does anyone know if that would put too much strain on the mounting points at the cab? Would it need extra bracing?

Thanks
