Roof Mounted Lights

I have a 2001 SC and I was wondering if anyone had mounted any lights to the roof of their SC? I live in Italy and the roads are horrible and now that winter's upon us, it rains all the time. They don't paint the roads here so finding your way can be a bit of a challenge. I live in the country and driving the back roads can be like driving in the BAJA 1000. I have some PIAA 40 Series on the front that help, but would like some 100watt lights on the roof to help as well. Any help for a roof mounted light bar would be great.

Thank you, I appreciate you catching that. How do I get a pic of the whole truck, from the first page of the album up?

The story....

Bluegrass-
First off, I noticed that you are in Easton, PA. I lived in Allentown for 6 yrs., my brother still lives there, works at one of the Home Depots there, small world.
Anyway, I am in the Navy and brought my truck with me, trust me, Italians having nothing this big here. There idea of a full size pickup is the size of a Dakota or Ranger and it sells for about 50,000 Euro, which is about $65,000, but it is diesel. When I drive around I always get asked a lot of questions about my truck. They can't believe that it has a gas engine, everything is diesel here. Driving something like the SC here is a status symbol here, believe or not. Gas is $4-$5 a gallon here so the truck is pretty expensive to fill-up. In the Navy we have an agreement with the Italians and get gas coupons to help offset the cost, but we are still paying about $2.80 a gallon, I think prices in the states are $1.80-$1.90 still, right? Ford does have dealerships here, but they have never seen a truck like this, I pulled in one time just to see what would happen and the salesmen flocked the truck for about 30 minutes. The truck is a 2001, so no warranty work here. Any work I have done is by a local mechanic across from the base. This base has been here for a long time and many F-150s have come through here, so he is familiar with the truck in general. I have wrecked it once since being here and used an Italian body shop, don't know how they did it, but the truck was put back together perfectly. Even had to order parts from the states because they don't exist here. The fuel quality here is marginal, all the unleaded fuel here says it's "premium," but the reality is the grade is somewhere between 87-89 octane, that's premium to them. Other than that, driving the truck here is interesting, most Italians stay out of my way, considering the average car here is a Fiat 500, about the size of a Yugo literally. They tend to bounce off the truck if the hit it, very funny to watch, it's the reason I built the front bumper. If you want any more info, let me know.

Thanks for the info....

rfirma1-
Yes, the Flight Line is still hopping, they call us the "Hub of the Med." Anything that comes into and out of the middle east comes through us, so we stay VERY busy. As far as your idea about the front bumper, I have a set of 55w and soon 100w on the front already. However, there are NO street lights in Sicily, so at night it is very hard to see. I use the headlights and the 55w now and it is much better. But, this morning it was so foggy I had to sto p and wait for it to clear, so adding more lights is an option. Not to mention there are no restrictions on lights here, but again, thaks for the thought.

Dan, thanks for the nice info. I kinda thought there was something different to your situation.
The diesels will be hitting here more often in future years as a more standard engine.
I feel Ford has a golden oppertunity to market an F150 with a good solid reliable hard pulling diesel given the low torque of the 4.6.
But they keep upgrading the 4.6/5/4 until there isn't much more to get before being forced to make a change.
Happy holidays to you and the family.

AGREED!!!

I think the ultimate vehicle would be a SC with a diesel. I even found a guy in the Midwest that would retrofit a diesel to any vehicle. The swap costs about $8,000-$10,000, but it's still cheaper than a brand new truck. I hope they get diesels in soon. As far as why it has taken so long, I know it's because of the corporate big wigs putting pressure on the governement to make diesels more difficult to produce/ use in smaller vehicles, so the gas companies can continue to line their pockets. Global economics, gotta love them.

hello again

got your reply.............may i suggest something else? howabout trying yellow bulbs. they are a bit better at cutting through fog than white lights. but if you are set on roof lights you may want to consider a roll bar setup to mount the lights to. ihave a sunroof on my screw and i dont think there is enough clearance at the back for the fogs. you may want to mount them on the front of the roof.
i flew out of sigonella countless times..........during my younger days i used space "a" quite a bit to get around. late 70's early 80's.
sicliy is a beautiful place....enjoy the time you have there.

I don't believe anyone has any roof light bars for the f-150's, mainly because we don't have a rain gutter to mount one too and most people would rather avoid drilling holes for it, so no company has developed one (that I know of). You could go the rollbar route like I did, mount 5 lights on the rollbar.
Mine is made by grizzly, I got it from JC Whitney, not sure how much it'd cost over there though.
