Supercrew nerf bar help

hello, I am a new supercrew owner and am in the process of getting a couple accessories. My first question is, does any have any recommendations on manufactures for these? I imagine some are junk and rust easy. I would also like a black finish if possible, and im not opposed to using ebay if someone can recommend a good seller. thanks in advance!

Scotte screw,

Stainless WILL rust if you don't take care of it, just not as easily as other metals.

I'm very happy with the black Westin bars on mine. They seem to be holding up well and I step on them every day.

The westin bars will fit and look good on the truck the oval tube step is a nice extruded aluminum black powder coat or chrome option an remember the mounting brackets ( these are the oval tube steps similar to what some have factory style when not using "boards")

Here's a pic of the Westin 6" ovals. The Westin brackets were a piece of cake to install and the bars just slide right on.

I forgot to say the brackets will fit to the truck .....so the truck didnt need to have the factory boards for these to work . When you order the bars you also order a bracket kit for the type of truck you have ( some nerf bars are u shaped and dont need bracket kit , so also depends on bar style) hope this helps

Most nerf bars / running boards will fit easily on the 2004s. They are a piece of cake to install. I got mine from the dealership. It took all of 30 very, very, relaxed minutes to put them on. I don't see any rust on them and they do not flex when I step on them, and I weigh 240lbs

Well I have black Westin nerf bars on my '01 and they are RUSTY!!!
Granted I just bought the truck and have no idea how the previous owner took care of them. But still, I'm amazed at how rusty they are.
I have the exact same ones on my '00 Ranger and and they only have a few spots of rust around the welds. And they are a year older.
I'm planning on taking them off, sandblasting them, acid etch prime them, and Rhinoline them. Hopefully that will keep them rust free for a while.
BTW: I'm in Minnesota, the salt capitol of the world in winter, so if you're in a better climate or a state which doesn't use salt in the winter they will most likely hold up much better.

The newer oval tube steps from westin are powder coated aluminum or chrome plated aluminum so rust should not be a problem with this style....pretty much any other type OR brand can start to rust depending on care and conditions this is something to keep in mind if you are in an area that does salt the roads in winter ,and yes stainless ones will also rust . The spray coating with bed liner is a very good idea to give new life to yours just remember to get rid of all rust it will still spread under the coating if not removed. hope this helps

Westin's Platinum Edition Bars are excellent! No signs of rust after nearly 2 years of use!

What is your location?

I have the Ford Chrome bars on my 02 Screw, and there is not a bit of rust. I put them on in October, 01, and they still look like new, and very sturdy. I believe they are made by Westin, although they have the Ford emblem on the rubber step pads.
