Question Accuracy of electronic fuel mileage counter?

I have a 2004 4X4 Lariat and was simply wondering if anyone has had any luck with the electronic fuel counter on the control read out as compared to calculating manually. Any input would be appreciated, I just bought my beast a week ago and put 700 miles on it and the read out states 15.5 mix of highway/city although mostly highway in central Texas.

I haven't got that high yet my last tank it said 15.5 but when I calculated it was 15.68, pretty close. Now it is at 15.7, I wish I got 17 MPg. Is that 17.4 accurate to your manual calculations?

How does it work?

I've been driving my employers 2004 Lariat S'crew around and checked out the fuel calculator. The thing just seems to stay on on same value all the time [17.1 liters / 100 km] Cdn truck eh! thats [ 14.2 mpg U.S.] . Seems no matter how much accerator you give it the reading is always the same.
Haven't noticed any big difference in ride or acceleration over my 2001 Lariat S'crew. Atleast not enough change to cough up the big bucks for a new on!

Drive on!

to get an "up to the minute" reading...press the reset button while it's on the MPG counter/display. it'll give you an immediate reading.

Thumbs up re - How does it work

Had the bosses truck out to-day and got the computer running on realtime to check the fuel mpg. Seems the truck does about 16 mpg (US) at 60 mph. Thats about the same as my 2001 rig.

Thanks for the tip

I have checked the accuracy on our families 04 Lariat Screw and computer has been reading consistently >.5 difference between what I calculate it to be manually. Not sure of the reason.

I read the manual for my truck and there are a lot of factors that effect the accuracy of the readout. It said things like make sure you vehicl is level every time you fill up and preferrably the samae spot at the same gas station every time. Let the automatic pump shut off stop the same every time not squeezing in the last few drops. Cruise has to be set for 8 miles to get an accurate readout and may require resetting when on cruise down the highway every now and then to read right. Especially if you go from a lot of highway driving to a lot of in town driving. Sound like a lot but it help a lot to keep it within +/- .5 like the last post.
