Installation of Pivot Bolts on 04 SCREW
Installation of Pivot Bolts on 04 SCREW
I have purchased a OEM Bed Extender and in looking on the dealer lot, it appears I will have to have the pivot bolts in the center hole of the three in the bed wall.
I am looking at ~10-15 per bolt. The dealer said installation would be ~$150!!!
They say I will need an impact socket wrench, because the bolts are self-tapping.
To complicate things, I just had a Line-X sprayed in, and they got bedliner in the hole. This may or may not be an additional problem.
Has anyone else gone through this ordeal?
What tips do you have?

You definately won't need an impact wrench to seat the bolts. I did mine by hand.
I'm not sure what type of problems that the Line-X will throw at you though...
The bolts, as I recall, were $15 for two of them when I bought them 2 years ago.

I went to the dealer today to purchase the Bed Extender Pivot Bolts. They were $10.00 a piece. In case anyone wants to know, this is what is on the bag they came in:
ONE PKG OF 2 PCS
W707381-S900
SCREW & WASHER
AU163-Z
The MotorCraft Part Number starts with the 'W'.
I stopped on the way back home, at a mechanic's shop (the guy owned his own garage). I asked him if he could do the install with his impact wrench, and he did it for no charge.
Now all I have to do is pick up the bed extender this weekend!
Total cost: $195.
Much better than $450 from the Dealer!

Hmmm...
Mine came with the bed extender...been in the garage since the second week I bought it.
Keep in mind if you didn't already know, very easy to rip off. Do a search, a few nice fixes to prevent that such as:

I just haven't gotten around to it.
