replacing screw tailights

I just finished replacing the stock tails with "smoked tailights" - when- and if- you swap your lights- or even replace the bulbs, be careful when you remove the two screws that secure the light in place. Once you get the 6MM bolt undone, you have to VERY carefully pull it back through the 1 inch hole. Its kind of like playing that game of "operation". If you touch the sides, the bolt could fall down through the inside of the bed and its a bee-atch to get at it from underneath. It takes 1 minute to replace the lights. It takes 52 minutes and barked knuckles to find that friggin' bolt. Just a heads up!

Thanks for the reply. I'm sure many of the readers can benefit. I personally have left a bolt (or two) someplace in the nether-regions of my SCrew.

Kitchen tongs and a magnet did the trick for me...and yeah it was a real treat...I didn't think my old lady was ever going to get it out.

S'crew tail lights!

Yes, I have one of the screws from the tail light in "never never land". I tried magnets, water and finally just got a replacement screw. Not one of Ford's "Better Ideas"!

s-crew03,
Could you post some pictures of your new tailights? I'm thinking about doing that to my truck but I'd like to see them on a truck first.

Where did you find the lights at? I saw some on E-bay months ago but haven't seen them since.

I Havn't had any problems.... I was told that if the lights burn red, and they reflect red when hit by an outside source, they're OK- However, if you get stopped by Bubba the sherrif, and his brother -in-law is the judge in some po-dunk town, well......

In reality, the only problem I've noticed is that the backup lights are really dim. As you know, the stock backup lights are dubious at best anyway. I'm going to install a set of "white night" backup lights at a later date... They are outstanding !
