4x2 Screws Reply

I have decided on 265/75/16 tires cause Dirty Red will be needing some new shoes shortly. I want to make sure that I can't squeeze 285's on before I settle for the 265's. Any guys with 4x2's that are not lifted or 4x4's, what are the largest tires that you have put on. I have heard that 285's have been put on a 4x2 but how much rubbing is involved. Someone who has done this advise me.

4X2 Tires

I put 265R70X16s on my '02 S'crew w/o any problems at all. I started to go with the 265R75X16s, but figured I didn't want to deal with having the speedometer & odometer off that much more. My tires have plenty of room & I would imagine 285s would fit, but would surely fill the wheel well w/o some lift or trimming of front valance. Good luck!

When I bought my truck, it had 265/75/16's on it. There were no problems with rubbing, etc. The truck will sit about 3/4" higher than stock, and the speedometer will be of a bit. No worries, though. I don't think I would go much bigger, though. It sticks in my head the clearance around the front tire wouldn't have allowed for much more. (I've since taken these tires off - I found a set of Lariat wheels and tires, and the price was right . . .)

That's interesting. I have an 02 S'crew lariat that has 275/60-17 stock tires and wheels. It's 4x2 and is at stock. No problems to report.

The 265/75/16 is a taller tire, with a diameter of 31.65 in. and a circ. of 99.43 in. The 275/60/17 tire - which I also now have - has a diameter of 29.99 in. and a circ. of 94.22 in. The ones I had were over the road tires - did you go with more aggressive tread?

I believe my tires are Goodyear Eagle GT II. This is the factory tire. For my next tire, I think I'm going to try a set of Nitto 305/60-17s. A 305/55-17 tire would be a closer fit to the original, but I couldn't find that size.

You can get the Toyo in a 285/60 17 - pretty close to stock. I almost got those before i decided to go big instead.
