"Service Engine Soon"

Yesterday morning a ‘Service Engine Soon’ light came on in my truck, it kind of freaked me out since I had no idea what would cause this. When I got to work I made an appointment at my local Ford dealership to bring my truck in this Friday for them to diagnose/resolve.
Today when I got home from work I popped the hood just to look around and found that the cone air filter to my Air Force One intake came loose and was just lying there disconnected.
I am pretty sure this is what caused ‘Service Engine Soon’ light to come on, what do you guys think?
Would driving it around like this for one day cause any damage?
Can the ‘SES’ light be cleared without having to take my truck into the dealer?

Without reading the code, it's speculation at best. If you want to clear the code and see if it comes back, you can. Disconnect the negative battery cable, turn the headlights on for a few seconds, turn the headlights off (don't forget this step or you'll get a surprise at the next step), and re-connect the negative battery cable.

MM, thanks for the reply.
By disconnecting the negative battery cable will this cause me to lose all my radio station presets and also cause my alarm to go off\do crazy stuff when I re-connect?
How long do I actually leave the neg cable disconnected and how long do I actually turn the headlights on for?

You're Welcome ! Yes, you will loose your radio presets. Your factory PATS system will not cause any problems. For other alarms, you will have to follow those instructions. You don't need the negative battery cable disconnected for an extended period of time if you turn on the headlights. Just disconnect the cable and head over to the light switch. Then, go turn the headlights on for 2 or 3 seconds. It doesn't even take that long to drain the stored energy. TURN THEM OFF next or you will get a spark when the negative battery cable is installed. You will know the reset occurred successfully when you crank over your engine because your gauges will do a full sweep. That's it....very simple.

maybe you could head to autozone to get thew code read.

Once, on my 98, the SES went off. It turned out to be the gas cap wasn't on right (damn full service gas).

So it could be the most minor of things.

Hey Guys, thanks for all your input.
I did the computer reset thing last night and that cleared the 'SES' light.
Funny thig is I did not lose any of my radio presests but it did reset the time.
