picking a SCREW
picking a SCREW
I'm looking at two '02 Screws. I wanted to get some opinions on what to get. One is a black lariat 4x4, grey leather, 4.6L, spray in bed liner, 47,000 miles. The other is a red xlt 4x4, grey cloth, 5.4L, soft tonneau cover, dual lines, 36,000 miles. How is the gas mileage on these trucks. What are things that you like/don't like about the '02. There is a '01 that I may consider also.
I have a 2002 FX4 and my father has a 2001 XLT 2WD. Of course I like the fact that mine is a 4X4, but the front and back seats are much better in my truck than my fathers, especially the rear seats. (I think Ford actually re-did the back seats after 2001 because there were no head rests and not much support) Neither of us has had any issues with our trucks, so that is not a factor. My gas mileage is not the greatest, but that's what you expect with the 5.4L engine. Most of my driving is in the city and I average a little over 13 MPG; my father's 4.6 is probably about 2-4 MPGs better. There's not much I don't like about my truck, it rides good, no major problems with fit and finish, etc. I have cloth seats, which aren't power and I wish I would have at least ordered powered seats. I'm not a fan of leather, so that is not an issue. You can get more options with the Lariat, but the depending if you're towing the 5.4L with less mileage may be a better choice. You didn't say how much $$$ each truck was, so I don't know if cost is an issue. Hope this helps.
Both trucks mentioned are fairly low mileage. I’d give them both a good test drive; maybe one will feel more solid. Since one is a 4.6 and the other a 5.4 floor them both to get a feel for the power or lack of. Make sure you look underneath for any wet spots too.
How much are they asking for each one?

Thanks guys.
I test drove both trucks. Both drove good. I felt more/better response from the 5.4L. I had a 4.6 in my '97 ext cab and there is a difference between that and this 4.6. I guess it is the weight. I don't plan on doing any towing other than maybe a small trailer to carry a bike on but you never know. The 5.4 is 25,500 at a ford dealership. The salesman already told me he would give me 1,000 off and I probably can get some more off the price. The 4.6 Lariat is 23,599 at CarMax. I like black better than red but I think a 5.4L would do better carrying that size truck. My dad thinks I should get the red 5.4 because he knows who owned that truck and said they are very particular about their vehicles and it was well kept.
I'm going to go look at two more, black and green. My boss saw the black one at one of the little used car dealerships you see scattered along the road side. I've always been a little suspicious about those though. I don't know anything about either one other than color.
