outside window trim
Replacing Halo Moulding
I had the moulding replaced on my truck last summer. I watched the dealer replace it.
1. The inside trim must be removed
2. The window itself must be unbolted, and removed ( this is real messy because of the butyl sealant)
3. The halo moulding must be unbolted, and the rear stop lamp must be removed.
To re-assemble reverse the steps.
The butyl sealant will be real fun to clean up from the window and truck body. My personal reccomendation is to wear latex gloves. Pull off a piece, then stick that piece onto the butyl, and pull up quickly. Keep doing that around the body...plan on several pairs of gloves. Do not use solvent until 99.999999% of the butyl is removed or you will end up with a gooey snot like mess. Also, keep the butyl off of the paint...if you try to clean it up with solvent it will smear and make the same gooey mess.
I spent alot of time during my years as a painter cleaning up butyl.
You will also need a roll of butyl to reinstall the window
