Question 5.4 upgrade

Please help I have 2003 F150 super crew 5.4 L and would like to pep it up a bit. First I would like to improve the shifting to something a bit firmer .I have heard that a chip or programmer (suggestions please) would do this I have also been told that B&M makes an electronic shift kit. Next I would like to get as much power out of the truck as I can without getting away from regular gas. I would also like to improve gas mileage if possible. Thanks

You may be more happy with a programmer vs. a chip setup.

The reason I say this is that I have a superchips programmer for my 01 screw and I love it. Got it used on ebay (yes I said used!!) for just over $125 plus shipping.

Superchips claims that you can't use these on more than one vehicle but if you return the original truck to "stock" it dumps the memory of the truck on the programmer and free's it up to use on the next rig.

I have set my shift points slightly higher, the firmness is much "tighter" and ironically enough I saw a 1.5 average MPG increase. I wasn't going for the mileage increase but that was a neat side effect I think.

When I haul my bobcat and mini-excavator around I'm almost to the recommended towing limit on my truck. It was very doggy untill I programmed the computer with the new settings. I have awakened some tourqe that I didn't know I had.

It is by no comparison even close to the trucks really designed to tow this kind of stuff, F-350s or Diesels, but my truck can really handle the load now much better than before.

I still love when I mash the throttle down and feel the tranny rip through the gears and set you back in the seat further each time it shifts. All without a supercharger.

Just a thought, but feel around and see what other people think about your question.

(By the way, the superchips programmer doubles as a code reader for the OBDII Codes)
