Short-Ram intake vs. FIPK

Ok, all you power junkies... I just put a Short-Ram kit on my 02 SCrew (5.4). I found a FIPK for a decent price. Will I get any better mpg or hp from the FIPK? I did notice about 3-4 mpg gain with the Short-Ram as well as more "oomph" off the line. Thanks in advance.

Wow... I only put a K&N replacement in mine which gained about 4 MPG, well over 75 HP and at least 90 ft/lbs..

But, here's where it gets really good...

While I am driving, sometimes I think about putting a short-ram intake on my truck. When I do, the truck gets almost 30 MPG and does 0-60 in about 5 seconds - that's how good they are. That's almost 15 MPG more and I'm sure the truck jumps to well over 500 HP just by thinking about it!!!

Gimme a break...

Save your money and do some reading around here. There is a wealth of information to be had just by searching the archives..

The "gains" are in your head. If the truck really gets a mpg inprovement from the short ram piece, it has to be that you're driving more conservative or different then you use too.

"Snake Oil"

Thnk about it....If that was really so, increase in mpg, then Ford and other manufactures would install them on everything so they could meet the CAFE [Corporate Average Fuel Economy].

Wow, thanks for all the "helpful" info. I still don't know the big difference between the two. Maybe someone who can write normally will post on here.

Reelwork..totally of the subject..

Reelwork,
I was checking out your gallery. AWESOME S-Crew. I have a 02 Lariat, with the Beige stripe on the bottom. I wanted to ask you about your amp. Where did you get it? Do you like the sound?
Thanks
Daryl

Hawk - I replied on the other thread, here's a cut and paste..

Hawk, Thanks!

I bought the subwoofer from Crutchfield when I got the truck almost 2 years ago..

But...

The subs were on clearance/sale back then and I believe they are no longer available. I suggest doing some google searches and doing the E-Bay thing in hopes you find one there..

I did a quick search on E-Bay and nothing shows currently..

Oh yeah, the sound is great. If you want real booming sound though, this is not gonna do it. If you want a richer sound and some more punch to your bass, it's perfect.

Don't get me wrong, my system will crank pretty good, but it's not to be confused with a person that has multiple amps and subs etc..

Good quality sound is what I call it!

The point trying to be made is that changing the intake from stock to drop in replacement to any intake kit will not vary the fuel mileage by 4mpg alone. Something else changed. Maybe the MAF sensor was dirty/oily with the K&N, but cleaned/replaced with the Short Ram. Maybe your drivin habits changed. No one knows without more information, but the intake swap alone did not change fuel economy by as much as you said above.
