Lets put together a fast supercrew

I am serious about getting a new 2004 Screw and got the feeling there slower than last year because the new truck weighs 800lbs more. Thats like 3.5 dirtbikes (if you could fit it)in that back of a 2004 that the 2003 doesn't have to carry. The Titan is fast but its not my style and the Ram Hemi is bitchen but I can't stomach the lack of reliability in buying a Dodge. The Ford 5.4L Screw is it, but I have a question?:

How much faster say in 0 to 60 times is a 2wd over a 4wd?
Whats the fastest gear ratio?

Does an air intake really get you 15hp for about $300?
Does exhaust really give you 15hp for about $300?
Does a chip really get you 15hp for about $300?

If the above statements are true, then with some octane boost a 2004 Screw should have 350hp. Now will it haul ***?

Supercharger aside, are there any other mods that give good power to a 2004 Screw?

Air intakes don't really give you a darn thing. They just make the other things work a little more effectively. You might see 5-10 hp gains, but that's only a 2% gain... You ain't gonna feel 2%, I don't care if you just had hemorrhoid surgery, your seat of the pants meter aint that sensitive.

However, you will notice that it revs up a little easier and you might see a slight increase in MPG. If you get the full blown FIPK (which is a $250 waste over a replacement filter and an air box mod) it will be louder and it will *seem* faster becuase it's louder.

Exhaust gains? Definitely..

Chip or Tuner gains? Definitely..

I have done all three and I would rank the best add on as being a very close contest with the exhaust and tuner (I bought a tuner), with the slight edge going to the tuner.

However, the gains of the chip wouldn't be as significant without the addition of the exhaust and the exhaust wouldn't be as good without the K&N.

These are the 3 mods that I think everyone should do to see most performance gains and it can be done for around $530, not $1000 if you get a tuner for $250, a cat-back for $250 and a replacement filter for $30.

K&N,exhaust

Haveyou heard about K&N filters leaving oily deposits on the mass air flow sensor? Ive been having a rough idle problem in my 2003 supercrew 5.4 since I put in my filter & dealer says it's from deposits on sensor. Also the exhaust system does help mpg but the the low end tourque goes away. I'm not sure what works best. I just put the stock filter back hoping my idle will smooth out & I'm thinking of restricting my exhaust system back 2.5"
I've been a little disapointed w/the mods so far. Lots of extra rumble in the cab & less throttle response. I think the super tuner may be the best mod w/timing advance & more responsive trans.
Just hoping someone else is as disapointed as me w/all the$$$ spent & no real perfomance gain.

Nope, no openings there for me as well as Alaska. So, I am now heading to Langley AFB in Hampton Va.

Good fishing there!

Thanks for asking.

Chris

Jorjen - I believe if you have too much oil on the K&N, the MAF problem can occur. I personally have not had that problem though and when I clean and re-oil my K&N, I always wipe it down with a paper towel to absorb any excess.

As for exhaust, I went with a Magnaflow and I didn't lose any low end torque, in fact I feel like I gained a little. What exhaust did you go with? I believe the Magnaflow is about the only cat-back on the market that still retains low end torque..

I agree with you, reelwork, my truck's best mod so far was the 1715. I'm in the "research" phaze for her exhaust, i'm not sure if I should give her headers or not. Dual with crosspipes, yes. 2 1/2 in as opposed to 3", yes. Just not sure about the headers...haven't had luck with headers in the past.

I highly recommend the Magnaflow. Personally, I prefer the single exit out the side, but that's just me. The dual exits out the rear and uses in SI/DO design. I had no fit problems and recently took it and had it TIG welded up..

Those clamps have a tendency of not staying as tight as they ought to..

I have not had your experience , quite the opposite. As far as your MAF sensor . Use brake cleaner on the little "coil". Just be careful and don't get it on the rubber parts.

Another thing I do after cleaning and re-oiling the filter is to tape on my shop-vac let it run for about 5 minutes , then vacuum between pleats and finally just wipe it off with a good paper shop towel.

exhaust

Hey REELWORK, thanks for the reply. I went with 3" from y pipe back with a 50 series(RV) flowmaster. I tried Maganflow 1st but was not happy with the sound. I think the lack of torque might be from opeining up the pipes to 3". Do you have 3" and hows the rumble in the cab?
As far as the filter I've never oiled it yet as it's only been in for about 5 mos. This is what the dealer tech told me-NEVER USE AFTER MRKT. FILTERS!! I don't know who to believe. I've always used K&N filters and never had a problem. I'm begining to think the truck is a POS! Here is another thing, when I drive with the windows down along strreets with high curbs or brick walls I hear what sounds like an exhaust leak bouncing back. It's always done this. Lots of ticking noise. This is starting to really bother me after $30,000 on a truck.

Hawk, Thanks!

I bought the subwoofer from Crutchfield when I got the truck almost 2 years ago..

But...

The subs were on clearance/sale back then and I believe they are no longer available. I suggest doing some google searches and doing the E-Bay thing in hopes you find one there..

I did a quick search on E-Bay and nothing shows currently..

I thought these were TRUCKS not race cars. If you really worry about speed, why not buy a mustang or something?

2004 5.4 liter v8

the 2004 f-150 has 15 more hp. than previous models with the same 5.4.
if you dont need the 4x4, the 4x2 is atleast a few hundred pounds lighter.
the bigger you go with your exaust the more back pressure you loose you'll get a deeper sound when you go bigger but to big isnt always better.
