Angry Intermittent Starting Problems

I have a 01 F-150 Supercrew Larit 4x4 with 37,000 miles. I am have intermittent starting problems. I've had the fuel filter changed, the throtle body and injectors cleaned by Ford. They even ran a test and the computer never showed any codes. Of course, Ford couldn't get the truck to duplicate the problem. So they sent me on my way and told me they noted it in the computer. This problem is driving me nuts anyone have any ideas?

When I get into my truck to start it, if it doesn't fire off right away, I let off on the key and wait a few seconds and then it will start. Other times I've just turned the key and it will just turn over and over and eventually it will start. It sounds like it's not getting any gas. Like I said I took it to Ford way before the warranty expired and they ran all the tests and they couldn't get the truck to duplicate the problem. The service manager said she logged the problem into Fords data base, so that if they noticed a trend, Ford could repsond to the issue and try to fix the problem. Now, if something is wrong, I'm screwed and it will be at my expense.

Try turning the key to the no position but do not start it. Wait 1 to 2 seconds then start your truck. This will give the fuel pump time to build pressure. It sounds like you are loosing pressure when the truck is not running.

I have that same problem when I try to start the truck immediately. I have found that by turning the ignition key to the first stop and allowing the chimes to stop, you will hear a small thump in the engine compartment. the truck will start after this. Otherwise, it just cranks continously. "spork" has the right idea. Hope this helps

Fuel pump probably has an intermittent short in it. Sounds like its getting ready to go.

Had the same thing happen in one of my trucks,

Scott
