Tailgate locks up

The tailgate on my 2002 SuperCrew locks whenever I close it. It's very irritating to always have to get my keys everytime I want to open it up. Any suggestions on how I can fix this ??

Ya Don't Say???

Mine does it as well. About every third try it will be locked...

Maybe this is an "Automatic locking feature" LOL -

I've been tempted to rip into it and see what's up. It's gotta be a POS spring or something..

Easy fix - install a power lock that works off of your remote!! One of the best mods I have done on my truck.

Wink

I have not seen this problem with my father inlaw's or my truck (SCab and Screw). It should be easy to get into the tailgate and and take a look around.

A buddy of mine had this happen on his scab every 3rd or 4th closing. The dealer said it was a security feature to prevent tailgate theft. I think that is a load of ......

Try doing a search, I remember someone posting this (about a month ago) and had this repaired/replaced under warranty. My 03 screw has never locked on itself yet, and I've had it since Nov 03

Check the TSBs. I remember reading a bulletin that addressed this problem. Luckily my Screw isn't doing it yet. . . (knocking on desk).

Go about 6 or 7 posts down in the thread below and look for Orlando, he has a fix for the problem.

found another one with a different fix for the same problem:

My 2002 did this. There is a TSB out on it. I brought mine in to the dealer this winter and they fixed it no charge.
