Anyone w/ a air intake on their Screw?
I had an airforce 1 intake on my truck, first it did not improve the inital pick up, but I would really feel it while on the highway and I needed to pass somone at about 2500 rpm you felt it kick in and it sounded great. It did not improve gas mileage because I loved the way it sounded so much that I would always press the pedal to the floor. The only problem that occured is that after about two months it tripped the check engine light and I still can't get it to turn off.
Ditto, except for the check engine light. I pull a 25 foot travel trailer and really noticed a difference on the highway when i wanted to change lanes it picked up speed a lot better. Are you sure the intake made the check engine light come on. Have you disconnected the battery to try to reset it?
I disconnected the battery, I checked the gas cap, I had my mechanic clear the code from the computer I even put the stock intake on. Nothing has turned that light off. I guess I'll have to break down and go back to the dealer with it.
Hey SD... I put on the k&n fipk @ 5 months ago. Mileage is up @1-1 1/2 mpg. response is great, especially when you go full throttle, she just gets up and goes. I just ordered the 1715 from Anita at Troyer performance(she was very informative). From all the reading I've done in here, the 1715 is the first thing ANYBODY should do for our trucks. I'm no guru so I research the threads, but in my opinion I would spend an extra 100 bucks and get the 1715 first.

The real deal is the combo of the chip and the af1. I did the air force one and then later ran the tuner. The af1 is great. You will feel an increase in response but the sound at wide open throttle is awesome. Definately worth the money.

I also have the Air Force 1 Intake on my truck. It's hard to know how much affect just the AF1 had on the vehicle, since I also installed the dual electric fan kit from Troyer Performance at the same time....In any case, the truck does get up and go pretty well now, and as said before, I really notice the strong pull when passing someone, but that could be from the elec. fan kit as well.
If you're looking for a mod to improve gas mileage, the electric fan kit will probably be your best bet. it won't change it much but more than any other bolt on mod would do.

Hey Buckfu,
I am ready to start considering the dual electric fans but am a little concerned about the install. Did you take yours somewhere or did you do it yourself? I can work a wrench just not very educated in mechanics. If you took it somewhere what was the install price?
Thanks

I did it myself, with the help of my dad and brother. The hardest part was attaching the fans to the radiator....just hard to get leverage on the tiny pins that go through with just your fingers, and at the angle your working at (leaning over the front of the truck and down in the engine bay)
If you could possibly take the radiator out, it'd make things a lot easier, just more of a process for you.
I didn't have the right tool for loosening the fan nut, so I made one, it did the job.
I'm not even a real good 'shade tree' mechanic, but the directions with the kit I bought from Troyer Performance (see Mike T in the chips forum) were excellent...photos for every step, and easy to understand....it will be a year this summer that I've had them on, and no problems yet.
I would recommend buying some of that plastic tubing used to conceal wiring (I got some at autozone) to help keep the wires all organized and out of the way once it's hooked up. And some zip ties to hold the tubing down.
Best of luck.
