Talking Fx4

I currently own a '99 Ext. Cab Lariat that I've owned for 4 years now. In the near future I plan to sell or trade my truck in order to buy an '03 SuperCrew. My question is this, other than upgraded supspension what is the basic difference in an '03 SuperCrew 4x4 Lariat and an '03 Supercrew FX4? Thanks for the help.

Basically, the FX4 package adds special 17 inch rims, Rancho shocks, skid plates and decals. That's about all it has over a regular 4x4.

FX$

Are there any differences between '02 and '03 S'crews? Also, is a 5.4L V-8 standard on FX4 or could you get a 4.6L. I know I'm asking lots of stupid questions. Just anxious to find what I want.

You can get either motor. The 4.6 is standard, I believe the 5.4 is around an 8 or 9 hundred dollar option. Not sure about the differences between the two years.

In 2002 and 2003, FX4 was an option package on the XLT and Lariat 4wd trucks, Regular cab, Supercab, or Supercrew, any engine.

From the Order guide:

FX4 OFF-ROAD EQUIPMENT GROUP (55R)
•P265/70R17 OWL all-terrain tires (incl. spare) (T5N)
NOTE: Optional LT265/70R17 OWL all-terrain tires (T5E) are
recommended for demanding off-road usage
•17" 5-spoke cast aluminum wheels (64F)– four with steel
spare.
•With two-tone exterior paint schemes: wheel lip moldings and
top cap are Dark Shadow Grey on XLT and Arizona Beige (AQ)
or Silver Metallic (YN) on Lariat
•Unique FX4 tape stripe
•Skid plates (fuel tank, transfer case and frame front cross
member) (413)
•Heavy duty Rancho shock absorbers (68K)
•New “FX4 Off-Road” decal
•3.55 Limited Slip axle; 3.73 Limited Slip axle on SuperCrew
•Stainless steel lug nuts
Exterior colors:
Optional Two-tone Paint combinations (954) are all combined with
Dark Shadow Grey lower two-tone on XLT and Arizona Beige or
Silver Metallic lower two-tone on Lariat (See Color and Trim chart
for further details)
Restrictions:
•Requires V8 engine
•4x4 only.
•Not available with Sport Group (94S/94T), Payload Group #3
(623) or 7700 lb. Payload Groups (627 and 628)

If you want the Lariat, you'll get the same sized wheels and tires without the FX4, but different style. It is quite overrated as a package.

02 vs. 03 If you go with a late year 02 (Dec 02 thru spring 03) or an 03 you will get the 5.4 heads with more threads for each spark plug.

The spark plug blow out issue may not be wide spread, but it does happen.
