Go with the bed liner like a Pendaliner. Its raised ribs and will not dent the dent the bed underneath if you toss bricks or stones in the back.

I bought the Ford Logo bedliner from the dealer parts dept. It was 225.00 installed. The liner fits under the bed rails, is ribbed, and the tie-downs bolt thru it to hold it in place.
I like the way it looks and the price was right!
Good luck!

go spray on.

I have a Rhino Liner, spray on, put on when I bought my 1998 F150 brand new, and just bought a 04, SCrew F150 and already have an appointment to get another spray on Rhino Liner. I liked it better then the spray on Line-X because it has a bit more of a rubber feel then the more sandpaper feel of the Line-X. A spray on is guranteed for the life of your ownership of the truck. It will never ever rust underneath the liner on the bed. My new cost is $399.. drop in liners and bed matts are just crap. IMHO. Good luck.

I would disagree on that... the only thing the spray in gives you is a no slip surface. If you toss a brick in the back it WILL dent the bed and maybe knock some spray stuff off to the metal.

A drop in bed is under 200 and can take abuse such as dropping stuff in the back, and you can take it out when you sell it, etc.
It is also replacable in the event you really trashed it.

Those spray in liners never made sense to me? What are you gaining but no slip? And you can not remove it.

I would rather put a helmet on my head than spray paint a helmet on.

Thanks to all who answered my post. Looks like it's a 50/50 split with your responses. I had the bedliner removed and swapped to have running boards installed,"may have been a bad decision". I thinl I will go with bed pad and the roll n lock bed cover. Down the road if things get ugly in the bed area I will have the spray in liner done.

or just go without and when it's time to sell throw in a cheap bedliner to make it look all nice again. I personally have the ford logo bed liner and try to keep things neat looking but if money is tight and you dont care about scratches in the bed you can wait and save your money till you can get exactly what you want without wasting your money on something that is not gonna make you happy. I dont have it but the RHINO system is sure nice.

Well said , Dude. I too wonder about the spray-ins. Other than a non skid surface, what protection do they provide? They certainly do not prevent dents or deep scratches.

I have the bedliner in mine, and could not get used to kneeling on the raised bed. So I have also installed the Ford logo bed mat.
The mat allows me to kneel in the bed of the truck and the bedliner keeps all dust and moisture out.

I put a penda liner in mine and i love it. You don't have to worry about denting your truck. I don't like the spray on's. You can damage them and have to get it re-done. plus there not cheap. Go with a drop in. I got the S/R (skid resistant) and it is actually stickyer than you think. Installed for under $200. worth the money.

I have factory installed bedliner, it is great! I have thrown bricks, stone, and about everything else you can find in Home Depot in the back of my truck and never worry about the bed. The best thing is when I am done I take a hose and a broom and it looks like new. My father has an avalanche and he has a bed mat and I hate it I almost throw my shoulder out trying to put things in the bed nothing slides. Go with the liner.

Linex is very good. I don't throw anything into my bed. Water willnot get under a spray-on. My .02

I beleive the best thing to do is install a spray on liner and then place a bed mat on top of it. The rubber bed mat will take the majority of abuse from dents, gouges etc.
