Where did you get the radio from? Did it have pre-amp outs for the Alpine?

Also where did you get the gas cap from? Was that for the F-150 Flare style pickup?

try this again

Gas Cap

Radio

You gotta keep your eyes open and watch the radio ... I've seen them go anywhere from $145-$220.

The gas door ..depending upon if you want polished or brushed ... I didn't mind paying $70ish for mine .. I like the way it looks!

Fair enough. Actually I have a Ford OEM 6-disc in-dash Visteon radio sitting on the desk. I replaced it w/ an Alpine in-dash. Unit is about 6 months old. Wondering what I could get for it on e-bay now that you mention it...

Ebay

I've always found that if you have something that you think is worth over $10 .. and you want to get rid of it.... EBAY is the place to do it .. cheaper than the want ads.. and easier than a yard sale!

Good luck!

D

by the way .. I forgot to tell you previously .. the radio that I picked up was 'stock' .. meaning it plugged right into the ford harness. I then ran everything I needed to from the alpine into the harness and viola ... kickin 'stock-looking' system.

Guess that Alpine amp was a tight fit with the Bazokka underneat there LOL! I've got a JL Audio 500/1 and it fits under the back bench pretty nice.

Actually

Actually .. both fit really nice!

I have the bazooka under the drivers side rear seat and the alpine under the passengers side rear seat.

I am totally impressed with the sound the system gives off. It's just what the stock system was lacking!

TonyPTX, does the rear seat still fold down with the subwoofer installed?

It does not fold down completely, however it does fold forward enough for you to be able to access the storage compartment in the back. And being that it isn't fastened down with anything, it can come out in about 15 seconds once you unclip the speaker wire out of the terminal cup.

I searched for a long time trying to find the perfect enclosure box and it seemed that ALL of them have the same limitation as the one I built myself. (Supercrew sound, MooseBox, and subbox.net) The plans are available for free on my limited car audio website.

side note

Hey Rogone I just love what you have done to your truck it's really nice & the graphics are great, care to share any info on them?
Detours, the mods are impressive, great idea on the roof rack, I was thinking about a bazzoka sub as well but wasn't sure about the sound & fit

Thanks 03Screw. I had the graphics installed by a guy I know who does this professionally. He helped me pick them out of a catalog he had and then he added some additional striping to them (the big sweeping double line curves). I don't recall who he ordered them from or what the design was called but there are thousands of possibilitys.

TonyPTX, thanks for the info. I noticed in looking at the picture of the enclosure on page 1 of your plans that there appears to be a baffle coming down from the top over to the left of the hole. I didn't see any baffle on your plan, just a note to add one if you had more than one sub, which you don't show on the enclosure in the picture. Did you add a baffle but not include in your plans for some reason?

I personally added a small brace in my box, however you may or may not have to include one on your design. Ask a dozen people about bracing a small box such as this and you'll get a 50/50 split. Personally, I like the "jump on the box" test. If you can stomp on the side of the box and not have it flex, then you probably don't need to add the internal brace. I didn't want to have to deal with pulling the box appart again, so I just put one in at the sacrifice of some CF. The internal brace measured 5"x4"x3/4".

rogone, as a side note, I see you have a 791XV system installed. Did you integrate it w/ the key pad mod? i.e. can you arm/dis-arm the alarm w/ the keypad?

Tony

No, the alarm system is not integrated with the key pad mod. I installed the key pad mod before I decided to add the alarm. However, if I need to get in the truck because I locked my keys in I can still get in and get them and either use the remote on the keys to shutoff the alarm or use another method they gave me that does not require the remote. So, the keypad still serves the purpose I orginally installed it for.

Bazooka

O3Screw .. thanks for th compliment on the mods.

Bazookas are great .. I've been using them im cars since they first came out .. and they seem to be getting better and better every time!

I like the non powered subs ... it gives you the freedom of choosing the amp you like to use, and allows you to get the maximum thump out of them.

Check Ebay ! I picked up a 'last years model' when I bought this Truck for damn near nothing! As well, my Alpine was purchased on Ebay for a great price!

Keep the updates coming ...

I think my next project is going to be this light mod:
