Question Seat Belt Chime

IS there anyway to stop the seat belt chime from chiming? I have noticed that even if you have the transmission in park with your seatbelt off it will still chime. This is very annoying..... Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Tim

Thanks for the reply. I just got the truck a few weeks ago and do not have a physical owners manual. I have bought one on e-bay though should be her anytime. APT sent me the PDF file of the owners manual but I did not think to look in it. I will look though.

Thank you for your help.

If you push the belt release button (even without the belt in), the chime will stop for that key cycle. It will return the next time, though. There is a complicated procedure on pages 108-109 of my owner's manual to deactiveate it permamently. I tried it a couple times, but could not get it to work. I am sure I messed up one of the steps.

Here's the quick version:
-Put the truck in park, close all doors and set parking brake.
-Turn the key to the on position (do not start)-wait until dash lights go off and wait one minute.(I wait 1 1/2 minutes)
-Now do this in one minute or less- buckle/unbuckle driver's seatbelt three times (ending unbuckled); turn headlights on then off; and buckle/unbuckle three times (ending unbuckled).
- the seatbelt light should come on, when it goes off buckle and unbuckle the seatbelt once (I think there is only a 10 sec window).
-the seatbelt light should now flash for 4 seconds and your done

This is just comming from memory, I don't have my manual with me; I'll post corrections when I check the book.

You could just put your seatbelt on too...

Just kiddin'! I have a remote starter and I've noticed that the chime timer doesnt care if the key isn't in the ignition. Once in a while mine will be beeping when I open the door.

I've noticed that if you wait for it to beep the first time and just reach down and click the button manually, it stops the beeping completely. Apparently they've been doing this for a while, I had the same issue with my 00 Ranger. The trick is that if you try to fool the machine by clicking before the first beep, it will still beep.

You could go to a junkyard and get an extra "male" end and trick it into thinking you are buckled.

Thaks guys for all your replies. I'm not looking to totally disable it just stop it certain times when I need to have the seatbelt off.

But thanks for all the replies. This board has been so helpful and I'm amazed at how quick the responses are.

and when your done with all that, you need to make sure it is raining out, on thursday nights ONLY, and ONLY after 9pm pacific time, so please make sure of the time zones, then you will need to get out your crummiest pair of boxers and chant around your truck 3 times ending at the front bumper. then wait ten seconds and fart, then chant three more times this time though ending at the tail gate! then open all doors and this time you have only a 15 second window to do this task, but you will have to sit in every seat and connect/disconnect each buckle 3 times ending eith it buckled, you have to be limber for this one. when done you should be good to go! hope it helps, that is straight out of the manual! honest

If you are still looking for an answer to this, all you have to do is unplug it. I had the same problem so I traced the wires. There is a plug underneath the seat. Just unplug it and no more abnoxious dinging.

There are 9 steps you need to follow to deactivate or activate your Belt Minder system. Before doing so, make sure that:
The parking brake is set.
The truck/car is in Park (automatic), Neutral (manual).
The ignition is OFF.
All doors are closed.
The driver's safety belt is un-buckled.
The parking and headlights are OFF.
Then follow these 9 steps:

Turn the ignition switch to ON, but DO NOT START.
Wait for the safety belt warning light to go OFF(1-2 minutes).
Steps 3-5 MUST be completed within 60 seconds!

Buckle, then un-buckle the driver's safety belt 3 times, ending with the belt un-buckled.
Turn on the headlights, turn off the headlights.
Buckle, then un-buckle the driver's safety belt 3 times, ending with the belt un-buckled.
After step 5, the Safety Belt Warning Light will be turned on for 3 seconds.

Within 7 seconds of the safety belt warning light turning OFF, buckle then un-buckle the safety belt.
This will disable the Belt Minder if it is currently enabled, or enable the Belt Minder if it is currently disabled.

Confirmation of the disabling of the Belt Minder is provided by flashing the safety belt warning light 4 times per seconds for 3 seconds.
Confirmation of the enabling of the Belt Minder is provided by flashing the safety belt warning light 4 times per seconds for 3 seconds, followed by 3 seconds with the safety belt light off, then followed by flashing the safety belt light 4 times per second for 3 seconds again.
After confirmation, the deactivation/activation of the Belt Minder procedure is complete.

I tried the procedure listed above which I also saw in the manual. I tried it three times, and it didn't work any time. Anyone know what gives?

Thanks,
