recommendations???
Probably should post this in tires...but it is a Screw related question.
I did a search on Goodyear MT/R and Goodyear AT/S and didn't find anything too much except that both tires are supposedly awesome tires.
I really really want the MT/R but it will hurt to pay for 4 of them. I hear these really kick butt but what do you think about the AT/S.
When I do a rating comparison on both tire they are pretty much equal for mud, snow, sand, etc... but the AT/S is quieter going down the road.
What are your personal recommendations?
Thanks!

If you are truely going off-road in a lot of mud, the AT/S will pale in comparison to the MT/R. The AT/S is an average all-around all-terrain tire. Decent performance in dry, wet, pavement, dirt, mud. But it is not a serious off-road tire. However, the MT/R will not last nearly as long and is very loud on the pavement.
Thanks APT,
I was affraid that someone would say that...
I do not do any off-roading in my Truck (I have friends that I can ride with)
, it would be more for a "look" than actual use...but I do tend to get into the mud and muck on jobsites quite frequently, and needless to say my tires I have now just don't cut it as I recently found out (even with 4WD). That and they are wearing down to about the point of changing them out anyway.
I can afford the AT/S tire alot easier than the MT/R...anyone else have comments?
Thanks a bunch! You people rock!

Well, you wanted comments...
I've never been impressed with GoodYears and their reliability off-road. Yes, I speak from experience! Now, the new MT's look pretty nice, I have to admit..
If I were you, I'd seriously go with a set of BFG M/T's... They are bulletrpoof! They will be noisy though... All MT's will be...

What tires and size do you have now that you are not impressed with?
I recommend the Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo. I had them on my last truck and loved them. They look cool, perform well on road and list off-road, and cost similar to the Goodyear AT/S. I had the AT/S on my last truck fro mthe factory. They were good for about 40k miles. Then the tread got very hard, which affected the ride quality, wet traction, and snow traction, despite having a fair amount of tread left. I only had the Revos for 10k miles before I sold the truck to my father in law. He hasn't complained about traction and builds new houses and goes through all kinds of mud.

BFG All-Terrain.
IMHO this is the way to go. I got a set about 10k back and they are the finest tire I have ever seen. I've had them in slush, rain, snow, and lots of mud and they are superb. Not any noisier than the Goodyear RT/S that I had but about 10 times better. They do ride a bit stiffer but I like that. They do require a bit more coin though but I wouldn't change them for the world.
I just put the BFG AT's on my02 SCrew. Love 'em.. Looks better, rides better, and will wear better than the GY's ever thought about.

really??
I have great luck with my goodyears that are stock equipment now...
I noticed a little cupping on the front tires but they were even on both sides of the truck. I haven't rotated in about 7,000 miles. The way I see it the faster I run these tires down the sooner I get my shiny new ones.
I am taking everything I'm told here pretty serious and have been reading reviews and comments on both the Goodyear AT/S and BFG AT. By the way, what a nice looking tire that BFG AT is.

I recently replaced the Goodyear AT/S with the BFG AT Ko's.
The Goodyear AT/S is quieter than the BFG AT Ko but my experience is that the BFG is better off-road and on wet roads.
The Goodyears had 30,000 miles on them and they look like they will go another 30,000! Don't know about the BFG's.
Just my 2cents!

I have had BFG A/T's, Procomp MT's and now the Mickey Thompson MTX's. I like the Mickey's the best. Best price point, smoothest ride and very quiet. Not quite as beefy as the MT's I had, but they still look pretty sweet and I still get tons of compliments.
Mudd-Terrain T/A km
The BFG's are great tires. I have had both the All Terrains and the Mud Terrains on an old Land Cruiser.
The All Terrains were an excellent all around tire for the trails and street. When I got stuck in the deep goo I hooked up the winch. Not the best tire for the sharp rocks.
After that I went with the Mud Terrains. Never worried about the noise since I was looking for performance. Tough sidewalls and great in the deep muck with the improved sidewall cuts.
Although, with the tough sidewall on the mud terrains you will need to stop for a pee every 20 miles or so.
When my Supercrew factory tires wear a little more I will be putting on the All Terrains. Great for the Canadian snow!!!
