Question Ok, sounds kinda stupid but the dealer told me if you put 2 trucks side by side

One black s/c and one white s/c used, low miles, all eqipment the same and priced the black truck 1000.00 higher, the black would sell long before the white. My question is the White Screw im looking at buying. If I buy this truck then go in a few yrs to trade am I gonna hear "well whites not a sought after color" and its going to be harder to deal ?? Why would blk be a better color ? Maybe this is just bs. Thanks guys im having a real hard time trying to decide weather to keep mine or trade.

Sounds like a bunch of BS...white is one of the most popular vehicle colors. If you like the white, get and and don't worry about trade difference in a few years, because there won't be any difference. White is MUCH easier to keep clean and hides the scratches better.

Yeah right...

He is full of shiite...

He's probably trying to get you to buy the black because black is the biggest pain in the butt to keep clean, scratches show more easily and well, you get the idea.. He wants it off his hands..

White is low maintenance and almost always looks great!

Now, don't get me wrong, I love the way a clean black car looks.. The problem is, they only look that way for a few hours after you clean 'em!

I third the motion... the salesman is a bafoon.

This is one of the primary reasons that car salesman are looked at as scum from the public's perspective. Some will lie, cheat, and totally BS you in order to make the sale. I understand that this is their livelyhood but, honesty is still a virtue.

I think it was Autoweek that did a report on this a few years back. White was one of the best selling colors but it was the least liked by the designers. many of them said they would not sell their cars in white if they had a choice, that the deeper, metalic colors bring out the lines of the design better than white did.
looking at a dupont report for the last two years silver was the best selling car color, while white was the best selling truck color.

all said, it's just a matter of preference. if you like the white truck better go for it, unless the truck is some off the wall color I don't see any resale issues.

Lightbulb You missed the point

The s/c im trading in is black the truck they are trying to sell me is white. I asked the sales mgr why it seemed like white trucks don't sell well up here and he said " I dont know but if I put 2 truck the same next to each other, one blk and one white and charged 1000.00 more for the black it would still sell faster" He said he thinks peoples thinking is that white is unsafe in the snow. They have had this truck for 2 months now and sold other Screws that came in after it already. The truck is mint!!! It is a local trade and is spotless. 5.4,tow pkg, white running board steps,cd,cassette,bedliner,19K miles, adj pedals, tan interior,I just can't believe it hasn't sold yet.It drives and rides like a Caddy.

Here's what I think..

I think that people will buy a black car and then realize it is a pain in the butt to keep clean. Some will stay with black, but usually they move to another color. My wife had a black explorer and she never imagined how much work it took to keep it clean.

Black cars are very appealing when they are clean!

Now, my wife drives a white Taurus and she loves white. She didn't believe me that it doesn't show dirt and such and how mouch more cool it is in the summer, but now she echoes the same comments to others...

I am a firm believer that white is the best color, but that's just me. I do still like other colors, don't get me wrong, but for wear and tear, white is the color of choice for me...

Tell your dealer to put the crack pipe away while he's at work!

If you want the truck and it's been sitting on the lot for 2 months make them a lower offer. Turnover is how they survive.
You didn't mention that the truck was 4x4 and i see you are NY. If that is the case I would say the lack of 4x4 and not color that might be keeping it on the lot.
If it has 19K miles and everything else checks out on it you should be able to get a good deal.

I have owned Black, Fire engine Red, Brown, Blue, Grey and now White vehicles, and My favorite is white.

Black looks much better to me like others have said when clean. It is probably my favorite color, but it is way too hard to keep clean.

The other day someone commented on how clean my truck was, and I hadn't washed it in 2 weeks, and it had rained several times during that period.

The fire engine Red held up pretty good also but the gry, brown blue and black were a lot of work.

I love my Oxford White

In other words, the dealer is a wacko.

I would say generally younger buyers more often choose black over white, cause they haven't had a lot of experience in keeping one clean.

That is a true statement in NY and most northern states. White is a big seller in the southern states and for fleet sales in all states. Dealers stock few white trucks in Wisconsin, because they don't sell as well as other colors. I see very few white trucks on the road around here.

In southern states where it is hot most of the time a light colored vehicle is preferred. Ford sells 25% of its trucks in Texas alone. I don't know if color has an impact on trade, my opinion is they will offer the lowest price they can come up with and don't care about color.

Like you needed anymore confirmation .....

I agree with the posts in this thread. White is easy to keep looking nice, shows scratches less, is cooler, is easier than most colors to get fixed and looking good if you ever need a quarter panel painted or something.

Black is a PITA! Beatiful when clean and polished, hard to keep clean and hotter than hell.

Pressure the dealer to lower the price, and have it checked out by a trusted mechanic.

It won't be the last vehicle you buy in your life and it won't be a mistake you can't work through. If you like it a lot and the deal feels good, and you get it checked out ....... you'll probably be as happy as the rest of the clan here.
