Service Engine Light Came On

My Service engine light came on today. Does any one have any info on purchasing the computer required that plugs into the truck in order to tell me what is bad?
I don't want to take it to a dealer and get ripped off for something simple.

How many miles? Truck doing anything 'weird' lately?

Might be the 02 sensor.

Angry Service Engine Light,

Thanks guys,
The truck has about 42,000 mile on it. Runs GREAT.
A guy was telling me a weird story about these engines. It might have come on from dampness and after 32 starts, the light goes off. It is suppose to work that way.
I will check out the link to Super Chip.

Autozone tested mine for free. It turned out to be the DPFE sensor.

Might check with your local parts shops to see if they will provide the service.

Was coming back from Chitown Saturday night after the auto show, rolling along I-90 and my "Service Engine Soon" light came on. I was ticked. Anyway, this light is only for emissions and only comes on for a problem in the exhaust fumes. Still made me mad. So called the dealer as mine is still under warranty and my service manager who I trust 100% told me they (Ford) have had a problem with the PFE sensors, not just on the 150 but across the board on almost all vehicle lines. He figured that was what it was. So, took it down the morning and turns out the thermostat was bad on my truck. The engine was running too cool. Must have made it run too rich or something. Anyway, I have to pick it up after work tonight. Just another possiblity that I thought I would pass on.
