Need advice quick on '01 Screw 4x4!

I am new to this site and am hoping to get some good feedback. I am looking at buying my first Ford truck after years of owning GM trucks. One of the local Ford dealers here has a 2001 F150 Supercrew 4x4 Lariat with the 5.4, leather, tow package, Arizona beige with blue at the bottom. The truck has 55,000 miles on it. I was fortunate enough to see it before it went through the dealer cleanup as it had just been traded in the day before. The receiver hitch looks like it has only been used a couple of times, no rust around it and the bed has a rolling tonneau cover on it with a remote control. I am guessing it was just a commuter vehicle for someone and did not haul much of a load. The body is in excellent condition and I did not see any signs of fluid leaks under the vehicle. I have always bought my GM trucks with about 10-15K miles of factory warranty left in case there were problems with the truck. I can get this vehicle for around $21,000 without an extended warranty. What would you guys suggest and what things should I be looking out for. Thanks in advance for any input.

Since the average driver puts 12k on a vehicle per year, I would think the mileage to be too high. I would not buy a used vehicle with that year to mileage ratio.

I gave...

that much for a '01 XLT SCrew 2WD about 2 months ago with 32k miles on it. I would say, keep looking.

Don't buy it. My dealer sold my trade in 01 XLT 4x4 *Loaded*, 26,000 miles and it was in excellent condition for 21,000. I got KBB on it on trade in so I was happy. Look elsewhere and you'll find a better deal.

'01 Screw

The price sounds a little high, to me (mileage ??). I see '01s & '02s in "Auto Trader" for less, in the San Antonio, Texas area. Good luck, I switched from "Bowties" a couple of trucks back & really like my '02 S'crew!

About 18,500 or 19K for that truck. It has high miles.

I have the same truck. That price is about 60-65% of what I paid for mine new and loaded (everything except moonroof). Sounds like a high price.

Had GM products before. Happy when I got them and much happier when I got rid of them. Lot of mechnical problems with GMs. None with the Ford. Ford has been a great truck. Keep looking.

Sounds high to me also......

Two months ago:

I bought an 03' Super Crew XLT 4x4 5.4 liter w/13,500 miles for $23,500.

Try haggling or look elsewhere. Good luck, you will not regret switching to Ford.

Thumbs down

personally I wouldn't own another '01. I t also depends on the Generation. I would especially stay far-away from a Gen 1 model. Snd the price is way high. We have dealers selling used '02's for 21k$.
But again, I traded my '01 in on an '02 due the latter being a POS lemon That FORD spent large dollars on and never corrected. just my 2$ worth.

The '02 is a world of difference than the '01.
