Dash rattle

Would any of you have any experience on dash rattles? I know exactly where it is located and have been to the dealer twice. They say they have fixed it twice and it rattles within minutes of leaving the dealership! I have had it; it doesn't take a rocket scientist to fix it! I can place my index finger on the little round pin/button near the center of the dash on the stretched oval top piece of the dash and it goes away. What all is involved in removing the stretched oval piece from the top of the dash? I would obviously unhook the battery to avoid any air bag issues. Please let me know if you have any experience with removing this panel to solve the rattle.
Thanks,
Bart

Are you talking about the 6" X 28" access cover on the Passenger side? If so, this is what I did. You will need a towel and a place to lay the cover. I marked one end of the cover with blue masking tape before removal. Have a pair of gloves handy. With your fingers go around the cover slowly pulling the edges up. When you get it released enough put on your gloves, the clips are sharp as razor blades. Do not let the cover touch your dash, the clips will cut any thing they touch!!! Lay the cover up side down on the towel and put 1/4" X 1" foam gasket pieces around the bottom lip of the cover. Reinstall the cover, by carefully lining up the clips. Its easier if you can sit in the passenger seat and have someone hand you the cover. Wear your gloves and be careful you don't let the razor sharp clips touch the dash. If you have the Auto Lamp Module, it maybe rattling, Its the 2 1/2" cube under the panel. It's on a slider clip. We worked a tiny bit of RTV (Silicone Glue) under the clip. We couldn't get the Module released from the slider clip. This was on a friends truck. This quieted it down, but he still had some noise. He slipped an "O" ring over the light sensor , (wasn't there for this part, but said it was easy to figure out) to stop it from vibrating. Remember the clips are extremely sharp and they will cut skin, interior plastic and cloth.

My Dash Rattle,

This started when it got cold, but I don't know if they are related. When I'm sitting at a traffic light, I get a noise from the Drivers side, it sounds like a Bee got stuck between two panels and is buzzing away. If you shift into Neutral or Park it goes away. I've had the truck in the driveway and it goes away when you raise the hood. Can anyone help me with this? PS I pushed and pulled on the lower wiring harness, (the part I could reach) and it didn't change. Changing the Heater controls or Radio does nothing for the noise.

Aftrmidnite,

I have the same noise coming from my passenger side too. I am going to try to work on that this weekend if possible.

Thanks for the warnings about the sharp clips...I'll be sure to keep all my fingertips intact.

Just a quick note, this may or may not have anything to do with your passenger side dask rattle. If you can't find the rattle in the dash, if you have had a friend, a daughter, another daughter...... your wife and the service guy at the dealership crawling all over the pass side of your truck while you try and find just the right bump...... and NO ONE can find it.......Please, Check the 2 screws on the underside of the passenger side door....they hold the the inner panel on and when they get loose they transmit a rattle/sqeak over to the dash......THIS DROVE ME CRAZY FOR 3 WEEKS until i found it while going over every screw and fastener on that side of the truck......

No Really, do you think i'm nuts? try listening to it for that long.......lol....good luck
