Installing 18" Wheels, having lowering questions

I'm getting a set of chrome 18" 99 Lightning wheels and I'd like to lower it a bit so that the back end isn't sticking up to high. Any suggestions on how much of a drop? What would I use to lower it (I'm clueless) and where can I buy it online? Would I also be better off lowering the front at the same time? I don't want something slammed to the ground but I don't want a big gap between the wheels and the fenders. I'd like a drop similar to what the Harley's have but not quite as low as a Roush F-150. Thanks for any advice.

I lowered the back end of mine 2" with shackles - got the Western Chassis set for around $35 at www.sporttruckdirect.com.

I also put on a set of 285/60/18 tires - they fill up the wheel wells quite nicely.

I like the lowered look, so my plans are to lower the front and rear when I need a new set of tires because I will get a lower profile tire.

Look in my gallery (link below) and you will find closeup pics of the front and rear wheels.

Thanks for the info! I took a look at the pictures of your SuperCrew and I think that's the look I'm wanting and at least it's cheap enough that if I want to go lower I wouldn't have spent to much money. Thanks again.

Any idea if installing shackles will lower the weight or towing capacity?

Not really sure - I tow a 5000lb wakeboard boat with no problems. I do notice that it tends to squat down with the boat on there, but I did not notice it reducing my towing ability.

However, when I do the 4" drop, I will be adding airbags for towing.

Thanks again for the info, that's what I needed to know. I'm planning on towing my Mustang around next year as soon as I can afford a trailer and I didn't want lowering it to effect that in anyway.

BTW, what size tires do you have on your Lightning rims?

285/60/18 - I little taller profile than I usually like, but with not lowering the truck, they fill up the wheel wells quite nicely.
