Is this a good price on 01 Supercrew?

The local Ford dealer has a spotless 2001 white Supercrew 4.6 4x4 for sale that I test drove. Power was ok. How do these things roll down the highway, will they stay in OD up grades and such with no load? This seemed to shift a lot in the short drive I took and that was with no load.
Anyway the truck has 46000 miles, slightly larger (taller) new tires, K&N intake, and the tow package. Body is impeccably scratch and chip free. Price is 19,999. Seem like a good deal? I really like the comfort, the drive, and the styling. Not sure about the power though. I will most likely be hauling one sometimes two motorcycles in the bed. I might get a light trailer to be used maybe once or twice a year, but for now, I'll mainly be using it as a bike/lumber/firewood/mulch hauler around town. What do you think of the price and also the truck in general for what I'll be using it for.

Check out www.kbb and www.edmunds.com for specific $ in your area. I suspect that price would be high in my area. Consider this: A brand new 2003 model would have an MSRP of about $32-36k depending on exact equipment. People were paying about $10k under MSRP for those leftover 03 models. So, did this 01 it only lose $2k of value in 2 model years? Just something to consider.

Looks like the average dealer retail is about 21000. So it's only about 1000 off what it should be. I think I'll negotiate more. I know he's trying to unload this truck before it goes to auction in two weeks so maybe we can work a deal. by the way, I'm new here. This looks like a great site.

I would shop around a little more - you should be able to get the same truck with the 5.4 for the same price. I see 2001 and 2002's around here all the time for 19-21k with the 5.4 and similar miles.

Ha! I just got back from the second test ride. The thing just seemed like it needs more power. It seemed to be shifting at even moderate hills constantly. I didn't make him an offer but...He (dealer) also had basically the same truck only less miles with the 5.4L. Man what a difference. Now I want the 5.4. It effortlessly rolled down the highway with almost no throttle. This is what I need for my trips to visit relatives up in the mountains. The 5.4 just chugged along like nothing. So I think the sales guy screwed himself. Now I want the 5.4, but it's too much, so now I'll probably just hold out for another 5.4. Actually I might see if he'll take what he was asking for the 4.6, but for the 5.4. We'll see. The 5.4 also had 7,000 less miles, includes a paint matched cap, running boards and the 17" with the offroad package. Most importantly, it was owned by an old man compared to the other one being owned and towed by a drag racer. He used to pull his 5.0 Mustang race car with the 4.6.

That is exactly what I would recommend - you DO want the 5.4 and he should be able to give it to you for the same price as the 4.6 he quoted.

Tell him you really want the 5.4 but the 4.6 was already more than you really wanted to spend. Tell him the Chevy with the 5.3 blew away the 4.6 and was the same price!

Good luck.

Always compare!

Wow, that's a great price for a Supercrew with the bigger engine and low miles.

I made an offer of $19,500 on the 5.4L model that had 40000 miles. He wasn't too keen on that, so I said, thanks and hung up the phone. I know I can beat that. I'll probably skip dealers and just look for private sellers now since I'm good to go with the financing.

Guy should take your offer. I was going to get a new diesel 250 but the dealers wanted to pay me $16500 for my perfect '01 screw lariat 4x4 with 5.4 and an extended warranty. I wanted $19900 and decided to walk away and wait until next year. I also have 49k miles so you should be able to get what you want. Great rigs and definitely go for the bigger engine. Good luck.
