FX4 Models

While reading through different posts, I have noticed that some members list their F150 FX4 as having 3:55 LS. While looking for my truck (in Canada) I never found any of the FX4 models having 3:55 gears. I was under the impression that the FX4 option automatically came with 3:73 gears, the 17" tires etc. Was this a earlier model year option?

Don't quote me, but I believe the 3.73's became standard in the 2003 model year on the FX4's, 2002 and earlier were standard with 3.55's (but could be ordered with the 3.73's).

At least for 2002, 3.55's were standard and you could not order 3.73's. They changed that for 2003.

I had 3.73 gears on my 99 Supercab ORP. Ford dropped 3.73 for 2000 unless you got the 7700# package. 2003 brought it back as standard on all Supercrews with 17" wheels.

I have a 2002 SuperCrew FX4, 4.6V8 that came standard with 3.73.
I think the change from 3.55 came somewhere in the 2002 model year.

Edit: I just checked the window sticker, I stand corrected. Mine didn't come standard with the 3.73 just because I ordered the FX4 package. When I ordered the LS the 3.73 was included. Sorry!

FX4's...

Prior to 2003, the FX4's came with a 3.73 for the 4.6 engines and 3.55's for the 5.4. Special orders could be done, but usually were not. The 2003 models all come with the 3.73's regardless of the engine and special orders can be done for other ratios...

Later,
Chris

2002 5.4 with 3.73

My 2002 came standard with the 3.73 gears, but it was purchased in late 2001. It was one of the first FX4 SuperCrews that I saw in Austin. Maybe they changed the configuration sometime during the 2002 model year? I had heard that 3.73s came standard with all FX4s, but I guess I was wrong!

Anyhow, 45,000 milies and still running strong!

You're right, they do come standard on all FX4's, starting with the 2003 model year. That's not to say that you couldn't get it before, but it you had to find a FX4 with 3.73's prior to 2003. You got lucky!

I wish I had 3.73's on mine!

Ours has 3.55's. You can find it on the axle or door jam of driver side

Axle codes on the plate on the driver's door.

19 = 3.55 open
H9 = 3.55 LSD
26 = 3.73 open
B6 = 3.73 LSD
27 = 3.31 open
18 = 3.08 open
25 = 4.10 open
B5 = 4.10 LSD
