New guy here...nerf bars?

I just found this site tonight and wanted to say hello. I have an 03 S'crew XLT 4x4. I have added a drop in K&N and a Dynomax cat-back. I really love these trucks.

I am in the market for a set of step/nerf bars. I was wondering if you could post some pics of different types of bars.

Thanks,

Howdy...

And welcome to site!

I have the Ford OEMs in stainless, which I think are Westins with the Ford step up. Solid as a rock and they look great also. I beat the hell outta mine and they shine right up with a good washing.

Check out the gallery for pics...

Later and again, welcome!

Chris

...and once again, Westin CPS

P.S. I highly doubt that the Ford OEM bars are Westins. The OEM bars have a totally different design since its means of attachment/support are towards the CENTER of each bar. The Westins are attached/supported at the each END of the bar.

Both are good looking bars, however, I like the looks of the OEM bars better (more husky looking and less protruding).

I like the OEM ones better too, they look tougher, stronger, and are also branded Ford

That's what I have on this old blue.

Welcome to F150oline btw!

You're right...

kaliscrew2k2,

You're right, seeing yours compared to the OEM - mine are definitely not Westins... I do know that the OEM's are stainless though. I think I prefer the OEM's also having more strutural support mounting to the frame and such. The OEM's also don't stick out so far.. Now, don't get me wrong, I like the Westins in your picture. I just like the OEM's more.

Westin has a Straight tube style as well, but it probably still mounts to the frame. The ones I think look the best are Smittybuilt Outbound, but I do not get good feedback about their products/support.

I chose Westin because they are the most highly recommended for durability. The chrome finish lasts for many years without dulling. Many of the polished stainless gets a yellow tint to it. Other company's chrome steps tend to flake or rust after a couple years. Even the OEM ones I thought people were having problems with. I know I have seen many 99 pickups (first year offered I believe) with the black steps that are rusting.

My 01 SCrew had the Westin Nerfs on it when I got it a couple of months ago and I like the way they look. Welcome to the board!

i like my nfabs, they are color matched to your color truck and have a step down to enter the truck. Only down is the price, but they are definitly worth it and look better than any other step out there i think especially on a lifted truck
Think the website is www.n-fab.com

Hey y'all, I have a quick question concerning the nerf bars. I have a brand new 2003, King Ranch with the stock bars. How tough are they? I'm a ex-football player, 6'3", 290 lbs and want to make sure that these will sustain hoping up on them three-four times per day for the next decade. Anyone have any feedback, positive or negative?

Since Supercrews have only been around for 3 years, thats a hard call to make. Let your first 30,000 miles of abuse testing be the determining factor. If it fails, Ford will slap a new set of bars free of charge

The OEM bars (both oval and round) seem to be a pretty good sturdy design IMO, as opposed to my Westin CPS bars, which seems to flex significantly.

Well, no sense in replacing the OEM steps on that KR until they break. When they do, either let warranty take care of it the first time or get ones that mount to the frame. Westins are body mounted. I know pwople on here have said 250 pounds not a problem, but there is some flex with even my 180 pound weight. Not unnerving, but a slight flex.
