Engine Noise and AC

Has anyone noticed a noise in there engine like a knocking noise while you are in idle or driving. Also, my AC cycles on and off every 20 seconds and clicks loud each time it does it. Is anyone else experiencing this problem. I only have 700 miles.

My 97 explorer used to cycle the A/C every 20 seconds too...very loud clicking.

One thing I noticed is the Engine was idling at 500 RPMs, if I just barely stepped on the gas pedal the A/C would stop cycling on and off. I ran the RPM up to 700 and the problem went away.

Sounds like it could be the A/C cycling switch located on the receiver dryer near the r/h side of the firewall.

The cycling switch is very easy and inexpensive to replace. I bought mine at the dealer for about $12.00. It is a schrader type valve which means it will not leak when removed. You will loose a minute amount of freon when you unscrew it. After you remove it, install the new o-ring on the new valve. You can use a little of the freon/oil from the switch and/or boss to lube the o-ring before you install it on the new switch. After you do this, just screw it back in and reconnect the harness. You're done.
