Tailgate Lock Not Working
I have a new '03 SCREW and I am experiencing problems with the tailgate lock. I can turn the lock, with the key in, counter clockwise from 12'o-clock to 10' o-clock and clockwise from 12'o-clock to 2'o-clock but I do not get a "postive" lock whereby the key turns to a fully locked position and the tailgate is locked. I know the obvious is to take it back to the dealer and may end up having to do that but if there's a "quick fix" I thought I'd tackle it myself. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.
I'm no expert on Lock and Keys...but sounds like the "linkage" which connects from the lock to the actually locking mechanism is broken...or better yet...not there at all.
If you feel like taking apart the latch go for it, but I've never done that before so I can't help with how to do this...

mjhall,
I am afraid I would have to put that 3/36 bumper to bumper warranty to work. If you damage the lock trying to repair it, you may have trouble getting the dealer to fix it.
An 03 SCrew wasn't chump change; make them get it right. JMHO.
BTW, Congrats on the New SCrew.

Guys...
This is a common problem with the rear locking mechanism. I've read several posts and have a co-worker that had to have his replaced as well.
Ford knows they have issues... they won't bauk at fixing it under warranty.
