Installed some goodies
Monday I had a Magnaflow 12579 (5x11, 3" i/o) installed on my '03 Screw. What a nice muffler! I noticed better throttle response, and a little more power. It has a nice low growl when on gas, but is totally quiet while cruising. I did retain the stock tail pipe though, rather than go with a 3" tail-pipe. Did that to keep the bottom-end torque solid, and keep the noise down.
Today, I installed an Ebay intake system. Its practically identical to my friends Airaid system! Everything is well made except the hose-clamps, I tossed those and bought some good ones from Napa. Its looks very nice. Very easy install, and everything fit perfectly. That definitely added some throttle response, and a couple more ponies. Its quiet while cruising, but makes awesome sound when ya step on it! Best $55 I've ever spent!
Now all I need is some better tires......

Totally.... It was all relatively inexpensive, and SOTP improvement is there. Definitely not HUGE, but better than stock for sure. If I got 4-8 HP out of the whole setup, I'd be happy. Even if its not that much, the throttle response alone was worth it.
My main concern was keep the cruising noise down. I cant stand freeway droning. This combo accomplished 'quiet' well.
I'm really hoping it will improve the MPG a little too, I'll know after a few tanks (if I can keep my foot out of it, heh).

Griffin,
I am interested in these mods, but I have a few questions.
I would like a little rumble to my truck, but don't want to go to duals and don't want to lose the back pressure (for towing, torque etc) and I can't stand highway drone.
Was the muffler and intake $55? or just the intake was $55?
I though about putting on a K&N and maybe an FIPK, but I am still not sure (only have 700 miles, and I figured I would do the K&N when I need a new air filter).
Also, what is SOTP?
Thanks, wattman1

The intake was $55 itself, and another $10 for shipping (or so). The Magaflow was just under $200 installed (sorry, didnt make that obvious in my 1st post... doh).
The Magnaflow I have rumbles a bit more when the truck is started, is only slightly louder at idle, but is definitely louder when ya step on it. If youre cruising, theres no droning that I can detect in the cab, and its seems as quiet as stock in that situation.
If you want more rumble all around, they make a 5x8 thats louder, but exactly by how much I dont know. I kept the stock tail pipe initially to keep it quieter, but I suspected it would probably help maintain bottom-end torque better (rather than going to a 3" all the out). The tech at the muffler shop agreed, saying its a trade-off. The 3" all the way out would pull better on the top-end, but the stock diameter tail pipe would pull better on bottom-end.
SOTP = Seat Of The Pants
Hope that helps.....

Griffin,
Thanks for the info.
After re-reading my post, it seems silly for me to have thought the muffler and the intake mod would only be $55.
I think the 5x11 you chose fits my needs/style better. I want it to sound like a truck when I get on it from a stop light, but don't want the drone at cruising.

I had never heard that one.
Thanks again.
