Static Shock
We've only had our truck for two weeks and I find that almost everytime I get out of the truck, I get a static shock from the door. Anyone experience this?
I've also had this happen to me while getting out of the wifes car(02 Alero)

i get a shock, believe it or not when i have on carhart jeans. when i'm wearing levis,no shock. must be something in the material and slideing out of the truck making static. strange but true.
You must have the XLT with cloth seats. When I had my '99 XLT, I got the same shock you describe every time I got out of the truck. I HATED THIS BEYOND BELIEF! I cannot stand to be shocked, not even mildly. I would rather take a punch straight in the face before being shocked.
I have no idea why, but RockPick... yes I always run BFG's. footwart ...I wear nothing but Levi's (501's) and still got shocked.
I have a Lariat now with the leather seats and no more shocking, thanks goodness! It has to do with the cloth seats and the sliding of your pants' material as you exit the truck.
HINT: The only way I could avoid being shocked when exiting the XLT was to touch the metal part of the door with my finger the during the time I was stepping from the truck to the ground. Sometimes I would still get a little "tickle" even while doing that, so I then started touching the key to the door (with my hand touching the metal part of the key). When doing this at night, I could sometimes see a little faint spark where the key touched the door.

I just asked the tire question to see if there might have been some correlation.
Rubber is an excellent insulator but, something with the composite of the rubber might cause it to build better than with other tires? *shrugs* Just stabbing in the dark here...

U might be on to something with the tire thing, though. Stanger things have happened.
I know that the intensity of the shock depended on which pair of shoes I happened to be wearing.

humidity?
I was looking where most of you all are located...and this may or may not hold true...
But here in Colorado when the humidity gets below 25% (which is most of the time anyway) I get shocked everytime I get out of my truck, no matter what type of clothing I have on.
I have to be extra careful at the gas pump...I can just picture myself grabbing the pump handle and BOOM! Up goes the gas station.
Just a thought, but humidity may play a factor in that.

I feel sure it's a combination of the cloth seating and the humidity. Since I've gone to leather seating in our vehicles, the static problem has been eliminated.
hahahaha, Well lets just say I hope like heck that never happens to anyone. That and it is highly unlikely too.
My dad has a Screw with leather seats and I never get shocked when getting out of his truck.
Anywho and what not...gotta go.

I think I can shoot down your humidity idea. I live in South Carolina. Humid, humid, humid. I don't pay attention to humidity levels in the winter, but in the summer it is always 85% to even 100% humidity. (BTW...How can it be 100% humidity?? Oh well, that's another subject...)
Anyways...even with the unbelievably high humidity, I would get shocked every time when getting out of the XLT, unless I touched the door while exiting. Touching the door grounded myself and the static electricity was dissapated directly through the truck, avoiding the spark.
