Which Shocks
Hey Guys,
I've already posted on the suspension forum. I want to replace the shocks in my Screw.
I have it narrowed down to Bilstein's or Edelbrock IAS shocks. I do a LOT of highway driving so I am leaning towards Edelbrock.
Would appreciate any pros/cons of each for any or you that have had experience with both.
Thanks,
Jag

Hate to do this but here: KYB Monomax. I love mine

Got the Bilstien shocks on my 01 SCrew. They are not plush riding shocks. They are a firm plant to the ground. Going over a specific hump on the expressway, the truck on the rebound goes up, and then plants back down. No additional movement what so ever. They are rock solid, but that is kind of how they ride, rock solid.
Maybe the Edelbrock shocks would ride better, but you will need to wait until another member posts on them.
Good luck

Jag,
I don't know on the shocks alone, I did a Helwig rear anti sway bar first, so that helped greatly. Then adding the shocks helped more. Stock to Bilstien, can't say directly.
I am looking at getting the upgraded front bar from Roush as ROUSHFAN-1 said that was a huge increase by itself, even before installing the rear bar.
At the moment there is very little body roll to the truck.
Total suspension mods, rear bar install, Bilstiens, and a set of Mich Pilot 285/60R18s.
I have a 4x2, and can take some 35 mph rated ramps at 65+.
Then again I can take that same ramp on my ZX-9R at 90+ mph, so maybe being used to it helps.

Hi Steve,
Yeah I know what you mean. I have an FX4 (with fake Ranchos) which is why I am getting rid of them. At 13,000 miles, they already are terrible IMO.
I have had Bilstein's before and thought they were great. After speaking to a good friend of mine, he said he felt the Edelbrocks were great on the highway. He however, had a five mile stretch of his commute where there were washboard roads. So, he sold his Edelbrocks and got Bilsteins, and has never looked back.
I just ordered a set of Edelbrock IAS shocks, a Rancho steering stabilizer today from Summit Racing so my mind is made up. I too will be getting a Hellwig rear sway bar as well so my truck should hopefully ride and handle a helluva lot better now.
Thanks for the tips. Id race you on that stretch but your 4x2 would out corner my 4x4!
Thanks for the help and advice.

Nearly three years on my Edelbrock IAS and they are still good. I do mostly highway miles with perhaps 10% off road. I was going to get a sway bar but after the shocks I decided i didn't need to. The ride is smooth but the resistance in cornering is excellent. I have the Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo as well and this is an excellent combination. Off road they are fine as well. I am pleased with them.

Thanks for all of the replys on this thread guys. I went with Edelbrocks. I also ordered myself a Rancho steering stabilizer. I hope to have everything shipped and installed by sometime next week.
I will post back with the results. I am also thinking or a rear sway bar, but I will see how the shocks handle first!

Shock ehh?
I went from stock to RSX9000 Ranchos at 35k....
Let me start with saying I am a auto-x, so to me, shocks are very important.
Stock shocks on f150 2wd screw suck major booty. Even new ones. They are aweful. I would recommend anyone over 12K miles to replace them.
It made a huge difference in ride quality. I feel the truck is better conected to the road now. Not just floating above it. If you like to know where the road is and what it feels like then upgrade the shocks.
It helped imensly with transitions and quick turn ins. But really didn't help at all with body roll. Set the truck up for a long sweeping corner and it still leans like a pig. But quick back and forth turns and you know the shocks are working.
Need to buy a set of sway bars next. Especially before stickier tires.
Any shock is going to be better than stock. Just do it and be happy.

Well,
I have a brand new set of Edelbrock IAS shocks installed in my Screw. In addition, I got a Rancho steering stabilizer.
All I can say is WOW. What a big difference. Handling, ride, cornering, braking, etc have VASTLY improved.
Its only been two days, but I am really liking them! Would recommend them to anyone looking to upgrade shocks.
These puppies are night and day compared to the *AHEM* "Ranchos" that come with the FX4 package.
