Moon-roof rattle

I have a rattle that sounds like its coming from the moon-roof area over the passenger seat.

Have any of you had a similar noise and if so what was the fix?

thanks

The only problem I've had with my moonroof was the exterior seal bowing up... I haven't noticed any rattles but, I suspect it could be easily resolved.

There are star bolts that hold all of the mechanical parts together up there and I bet one of those has rattled loose. You might try tightening those down...

If that doesn't work, sounds like a stealership visit under warranty to me.

Good luck and keep us posted.

What's a "star bolt" RP? Do you mean a Torx recess? Come on man, tell me you know what a Torx is right? My peers would laugh heartily at you if it is indeed a Torx. I work for the company that invented/patented Torx.

RP,

I'm sure that you really know that a star bolt is actually an inverse torx, right?

I have a factory moonroof in my '03 Supercab.

It has a "creaking" sound in the headliner around the passenger side, when going over rough roads, but only when the moonroof is open. I have not had it checked out, I have just lived with it.

On mine, it seems like it is the sliding part of the headliner rubbing against something.

Question Moon Roof Rattle

I also have a rattle with the Slider Open and the window closed when going over a bump it is very annoying in my 2002 Lariat F150 Club Cab. When the slider is closed the noise seems to be gone. Anyone have any experience with the same problem/solution. I am out of warranty.

I have a 2001 SuperCrew and have had the same problem with my moonroof. Dealer has taken the headliner out 3 times to try and fix and has not got it right yet. I've basically had to live with it past year. Squeaks and rattles when open, and squeaks a little when closed but not much. Dealer also says they have no knowledge of any other SC's with this issue.

If you have a solution I'd love to hear about it. Drives me nuts considering how much I paid for this truck.

moon roof rattle

Check the air dam that pops up when you open the moon roof, in the closed position mine rattles on the base below, I've got to put some felt or other material between the 2 pieces to prevent

Sunroof Issues

Any updates on the sunroof issues. I have a major "rattle...or banging" or whatever you want to call it! when the slider is open and the glass shut. Sounds like metal against glass!! Original diagnosis from dealer...2 pieces replaced under warranty (PremCare)...third piece...I pay $215, because it's not under warranty. When parts were in, he called and said "frame was cracked".... "He" convinced Ford to replace entire moonroof for my cost of $135. I AM A LUCKY GUY!! We'll see when it comes time to pay the bill.....
