Question Decisions Desicions...

Ok, I am very confused on what truck to purchase. I have 2 trucks in mind. 2001 4x4 F150, OR a 2002 Dodge Ram 1500.

I love the looks of the 02 Rams, and I hear that the engine is more "spunky" than the fords 5.4L. I have also read/heard about how dodges have major reliablilty issues.

Car and driver gave the 02 ram first place and the f150 last place... but there dodge ram blew a tranny, and a bunch of little stuff....

The Ram was a faithful servant except for two curious incidents. A mysterious and intermittent clunking from underneath appeared at 17,208 miles and couldn’t be diagnosed, so the dealer rotated the tires, and of course, the noise abated. And at 37,158 the transmission locked itself in first gear. The dealer discovered that the shifting valve body had gone “tango uniform.” It was replaced under warranty. The only other warranty item was the ashtray, which fell in a heap of parts onto the floor and was replaced at no charge.
If someone could show me the light, I would highly appreciate it.

Thanks

yeah Car & Driver... whatever

As far as the difference between the two trucks... styling is a big factor. The smooth lines of the Ford or the muscular look of the Dodge.

As far as engine spunk... appearances can be deceiving... race the 2 and see that there really isnt a huge difference.

If it were me I'd go Ford purely for the reliability. Ford has its own problems... but not as many as the Ram.

But it is up to you.

It's your $ without a doubt but, I can tell you that you'll see very few mechanical issues with the FORDs. Sure, every model, no matter the brand, will have some here and theres but, as a rule, you won't find too many folks that post that are anti-Ford here. Of course, then again, this is an enthusiasts site.

Best of luck in your decision. I can tell you that I'm BEYOND happy with my truck.

Ive owned a 97 and a 2000 F150. Both 4x4 SC/SB. One with a 4.6 and the other with the 5.4. I drove both between 80k and 90k miles. Both towed and were used a lot every day. Neither let me down. Regular fluid changes and one set of tires on each is all i did.

I currently own a 2002 Screw. I've owned it just shy of 9 months. With 19k on it it seems to be following the same path as my previous 2.

You wouldn't be able to give me a Dodge. I know too many people who have had trans problems. Under warrenty or not who wants to be without their truck while it is being repaired.

I'm already looking forward to replacing my 2002 with a 2006 Ford.

Yeah, go with the Ford!! Dodges are notorious for blowing trannies, my Uncle has a Dodge 3500 With the cummins diesel and blew his tranny at 4,000 miles. He dosen't work his truck very hard either, and dosen't drive it often, cause he's in the Military.

Do you honestly think you would find somebody here that would tell you to buy a dodge? We're Ford enthusiasts. We buy and drive Fords. If we bought and drove dodges we wouldn't be on this website. Anyway, not to lecture, but the Ford is not the number one selling vehicle in america for the last , what is it now, 26 years becasue they are junk trucks. Ford makes a good product and that's why I buy Ford. I don't have anything against Dodge, just wouldn't buy one becuase I like my Ford better. It's all personal feelings. If you like the dodge buy it. If you like the Ford buy it. It's your money, you have to make the payment. Buy what YOU want, not what someone else tells you to buy.

My $.02 worth.

Howdy Ryan,

I've bought 4 new Ford pickups since 1992. They have all been great trucks. Personally, I think all 3 American manufacturers produce awesome trucks. Every now and then one of them brings something to market a little too quickly, without proper testing, even Ford. (hello new 6.0 Powerstroke diesel). On occasion a true lemon rolls off the assembly line and some unlucky individual happens to buy it.

I would go spend an afternoon, drive the F150 you want and then head to Dodge and do the same with the Ram, back to back test drives. Pick the truck you like best then shop for the best deal on it.

Now there is one and only one, best truck web site around, THIS ONE!

Zach

I am asking peoples opinions on fords vs dodges. Of course I wouldnt expect someone to say "buy the dodge". I was just wondering what people think of dodges, I know many people who drive both ford and dodge.

But anyways, thanks for the helpful replies guys.

I am going to test drive an 02 RAM and this F-150 tommarow. http://forddirect.autotrader.com/for...001&rdpage=ymm

I had two friends that owned Dodge's. One returned his under the lemon law in California for the transmission. The other had numerous problems with alignment - when I was moving from California he was also moving to PA. He was ready to go to arbitration...no problem among the Ford owners, just my .02 worth...
